“Reggie’s Really Got To Come On”
September 5th, 2010With seven wide receivers now on the Bucs, Saturday’s question of the day for Mark Dominik was, how many of these guys might actually make the 45-man, gameday roster?
Dominik, per his news conference video on Buccaneers.com, glowed about the great special teams value of rookie Preston Parker and then was hit with a question about veteran newcomer Reggie Brown’s chances of making an impact.
Dominik hardly was fired up about the guy he traded for this spring.
Reporter question: Reggie Brown doesn’t play a lot of special teams, if any. …What role would have on gameday?
Mark Dominik: Reggie’s going to have to have a good week of practice to get a hat on. Because I do believe, and I think Coach Morris has the same philosophy, Coach Olson buys into it with Coach Bisaccia, that you’ve got to play special teams to play. Or you’ve got to be, you know, one of the three receivers that are going to go out there every down. So that’s where Reggie’s really got to come on, and see if he can get a hat on every week. That’s going to be up to him every week to see if he can.
Joe doesn’t expect to see much of Brown. Ultimately, the Bucs have to have Arrelious Benn playing football. The guy’s the No. 39 overall pick in the deepest draft of the century. And surely they will want him ready after Thursday’s breakout preseason game.
Brown is definitely the odd man out on opening day, assuming Maurice Stovall is healthy.

So do they try to trade Brown?
September 5th, 2010 at 1:04 am
I agree, Joe.
The question I have is this…will they trim a CB off the roster for Talib in game 2, or cut that 7th WR?

Joe here,
JimBuc – Don’t see how they can with that little experience at the position outside of Brown.

Joe here,
Pete – I think they’ll gamble on cutting Carpenter and then putting him on the practice squad if he’s not claimed. Assuming Freeman’s healthy.

That makes a lot of sense, Joe.
That or maybe Sabby gets the axe? I mean, maybe they are hoping that because they kept him, someone might want him in a trade in hte first week?
(hehehehehe, sorry, I couldn’t keep a straight face any longer!)

Joe isn’t there interest out there for Peanut? You would think someone would be willing to trade for a Pro-bowl return man.

AGREED

The Bucs need all the Pro Bowlers they can get. There is no way I would trade a proven return man.
I guess we know why the Eagles were so eager to give up on Reggie Brown. It isn’t shocking that he won’t be a big contributor. The top 3 receivers for the Bucs are a guy with creaky knees, a rookie and a 2nd year man. That doesn’t inspire confidence. In my opinion this team has to win at least 7 games to consider it a “successful” season. Anything less than that is a disappointment in my book.

The great Reggie Brown isn’t lighting it up?
Go figure.

As long as Mo Stovall is healthy, our offense ought to run like a Lamborghini.
September 5th, 2010 at 8:39 am
Our squad will be ok when Benn steps up and it’s Williams stroughter and benn.
September 5th, 2010 at 8:44 am
We are stacked with quality return men. Trade Peanut if you can.

More roster moves will be made before we play Cleveland. Those at the back of the roster will be the first moved. We traded for Brown with a 7th round pick so if the other receivers are playing better or have more upside, he will be the first to go. 7th rounds get cut all the time. He was acquired as insurance against this years draft. Who would have thought that we would have hit the lottery with Williams?

I have no idea how Reggie Brown made the team….no idea.

Jones, Vincent, Brown
Three giants of the game, all aquired in one offseason by the manchild.
Awesome!

I think Reggie Brown will be traded or cut this week.
I’m real interested to see if they put Rendrick Taylor on the practice squad or just let him go. They have really said little about his potential.

Hey Joe, do u think there is any chance the bucs will look at TJ Housmanzadeh as a possible addition to the team. I think he would be great with this mix of youngsters we have.

Quentin:
Zero chance. Dude’s been washed up for years.

Giants? No… starters? 2 of 3, yes. Improvement is improvement, even if it is slight. They improved dramatically in other areas like DT, they added depth at other positions like WR, LB and DB. You act like this team hasn’t improved one iota over last year. Do you really think Hovan/Sims is better than GMC/Price? or even GMC/Miller? You really think Bryant’s bum knee is better than Mike Williams? Ok, maybe Williams isn’t Marshall, but he’s better than what we had…. it’s called improvement…

Survey says:
Cut Sabby, the 12th man on every team we played last year.
September 5th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Ok, ill give em one iota.

Heres a guy who puts Freeman/Rah at 31st in the league as far as QB/HC combo.

Excellent Eric. Watch Joe burst a blood vessel with that article. Not good for one or both of their healths.

Sorry peanut got cut.
