Ward Issues “Guarantee” For Great Game
August 16th, 2010The Mad Twitterer, aka St. Pete Times Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud, has caught slumping Derrick Ward issuing a decree of forthcoming greatness.
Strangely, this decree is not of the Bucs winning games or moving the chains effectively as an offense. It’s a proclamation that he, Mr. Ward, will have a great game against the Chiefs on Saturday in the preseason home opener. This comes on heels of his horrible outing in Miami.
“I don’t feel it will hurt me,” Ward said. “I’ve been in this league for awhile and I know what it takes to win. I know what it takes to get back on track. That was just a fluke game. But I guarantee you this weekend, I’ll have a great game.
Huh? Joe can’t remember ever hearing a second-string running back talk about how much he’d kick ass in a meaningless game.
Wait a minute, Pat “Vacation Man” Yasinskas, of BSPN.com, seemed convinced Ward already played pretty well in Miami, despite 12 carries for 20 yards and two fumbles. Those BSPN guys are so lost. Even Ward knows he was awful.
Joe understands Ward wants to make up for his ugliness, but Joe’s not sure of what to make of all this big talk.

I hope he turns it around. We need him.

I think Mr. Ward knows he is in trouble, hence the talk. He saw Huggins running the ball well and he knows the coaches could move EG back to HB and keep Pressley or Taylor at FB. Personally, I think it would be best for EG back to HB and cut Ward. This scenerio would not suprise me.

i liked it better when he wasnt talking.

He needs to lose some weight.
August 16th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
we will see if he does i hope hes right…he needs to play good so lets see if he haves what it takes..ill be there at the game
August 16th, 2010 at 6:10 pm
Talk is cheap Ward. You’d better back it up with good play.
August 16th, 2010 at 6:33 pm
I’m glad he’s talking big. Now this will be settled. He either backs up the boast and we have a running back worth his money, or cooks his own toast. If he has another poor showing against the chiefs everyone, even him, will know it’s over.

Hopefully if we part ways someone will need a RB bad enough to trade us a draft pick. One bad game doesn’t mean he is a lost cause. As far as last year any running back in the league might have had bad numbers in our nightmare season.

Pat has some good blogs sometimes. He was dead wrong on that one Ward was terrible in all aspects!!! Hope Ward does perform better this week.Kareem Huggins is still going to be a STAR soon!!!
August 16th, 2010 at 7:31 pm
Cut/Trade his arse and be done with it already. I’m sick of his act.
August 16th, 2010 at 7:35 pm
there is absolutely nothing special about derrick ward. he does everything that caddy can do, only worse. he lucked out and was in a very shallow fa pool and we needed insurance for caddy.

I’m glad to see him pissed! I would love to see him come out and have a great game, then about 18 more! That would be great! If not . . .

Has anyone else seen the PFT blog that said Antonio Bryant may be getting an injury settlement from the Bengals and may not play again? Dominic may have wasted a bunch of money on Clayton, Nugent, Leftwich and McCown, but at least he didn’t throw more bad money out there against Bryant.

dont hold your breath capt. the guy has one great game in his career. i’m sorry, i normaly give players the benefit of doubt, but ward is a bum.

EVERYONE LISTEN! I HAVE SOME OF THE GREATEST NEWS IN OVER A YEAR. WE ARE FAVORED OVER KC. It’s only preseason, I know. But IT’S ONLY PRESEASON! This is awesome. It’s only 2.5 points so far, but what a relief. I love this team and believe we are headed in the right direction. GOOO BUCS!!!
August 16th, 2010 at 8:54 pm
Just like Namath before the 69 Super Bowl!
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh not really.
August 16th, 2010 at 9:19 pm
GotbBucs- oh, I’m not expecting a great game, I said I would love to see it! I also hope the best for the players and the Bucs. I expect another 1 1/2 average per carry game outta Ward. I would love to see him turn it on, and start a controversy at Rb over who should start! We all win that way! Personally, it looks to me like he’s done. He got the big payday, and lost his ” eye of the tiger” ( cue the ” Rocky” music!). That’s what I believe, but want to be totally wrong on this one , and see Ward bounce back!

He’ll get his chance of redemtion next game. Hope he does good then huggins tears it . We need these battles.
August 16th, 2010 at 10:08 pm
Dude just sealed his fate.
I hope he does have a good game and it springs the Bills to drop us a fourth.
I can dream.
August 16th, 2010 at 10:31 pm
Ward should guarentee sucking Raheems dick to make the team him and skillet cut them both
August 16th, 2010 at 10:55 pm
He’s garanteeing he’s going to have a good game… in preseason…. against the CHiefs backups …..wow , is that what he’s reduced to??
Pathetic.
August 16th, 2010 at 11:46 pm
To Ward’s defense, he is trying to run behind the 2nd team o-line. I watched him get mauled as soon as he was handed the ball on several occasions.
August 16th, 2010 at 11:50 pm
If he still sucks going into the season, I’d say trade him for a draft pick or Khloe Kardashian. 😉
August 16th, 2010 at 11:53 pm
@Javier n Wimauma Huggins also ran behind the 2nd and 3rd team o-line and still had a great game.
August 17th, 2010 at 2:11 am
Huggins also got hit at least twice the instant the ball was handed to him. We were lucky they weren’t fumbles, but Huggins held on to the ball. And, even with those couple tackles for loss, he still had a good game.

So much hatred…..
I’m happy to see Ward make those statements – that shows he cares
August 17th, 2010 at 8:52 am
The situation with ward is simply this. He was brought to the bucs to be the number one. Reason being is dominick did not think that the catti would hold up (bad knees). The catty got the ball and never looked back while ward struggled againt the same teams with the same o-line as the catti. As we checked out the training camp coverage this year, ward looked to be over-weight and slow. This shows up in the first preseason game and ward found it hard to get out of the backfield. Not to mention the fact that he lacked concentration by not remembering to hold on to the ball in the rain storm. Fundamentals. I would not be thinking about cutting ward because of the way he played, but I would cut him because of the way he responed to his bad play on the field and his actions on the sidelines. This is key and raheem the dream said it himself in his press conference. If I was a coach, I would not want to quit on my investment but ward is making it hard on coach raheem and dominnick.

I wonder if Ward fell asleep in a meeting in OTA’s, only to wake up and hear the words “moving from HB to FB” (in reference to Graham) and thought they were talking about him and started putting on weight…. that might explain the weight gain and lethargy with him. Either that or his new Ferrari gets him to the Dunkin’ Donuts shop so fast that he can’t pass up the buy 12 get one free deal.

Mr. Lucky said: “I’m happy to see Ward make those statements – that shows he cares…”
No, it shows he knows he is in deep trouble, and must perform to even stay on the roster. That is not the same as caring.
