The Barrett Ruud Dilemma
August 2nd, 2010As the Bucs are about to begin their third day of training camp, The Mad Twitterer and Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times look back at yesterday’s practice.
In particular, the duo discuss tight-lipped Barrett Ruud. By all appearances, Ruud is peeved that offensive tackle Donald Penn got his payday and Ruud didn’t.

Maybe Ruud’s not talking to the press because he knows how much of a distraction it would be to the team if he states he’s “unhappy” with Penn getting a deal and not him, and he’d rather the team be focused on football so they can play better and he can get his big deal done when it’s shown on the field. He’s done well, he deserves the contract, but maybe he’s enough of a team player to understand it’s better not to make waves when the team is trying to come together, but rather to remain quiet, let this blow over, and have the best damn season he could possibly have to get his payday.

Ruud is not really unhappy.
The stupendous draft has arrived. Mr. Price is a beast in practice.
Wiliams is Randy Moss. Clayton’s an all pro.
Rah has got his best self primed.
All good till we are behind 17-3 at halftime of the Clevaland game, on our way to the 1-7 start.

Dom said he is done negotiating new deals until he sees some football being played. So our RFAs aren’t getting anything done until the season starts.
I have to agree with Dom. We have paid out some serious cash lately. Lets see how we start the season until we start giving out contracts.

Personally, I think Ruud deserves a contract already. In the video, they commented on the “disparity” (did I spell that right??) of his play, but they neglect to mention the entire team, including Penn, played badly.
However, Ruud probably played the best of any other team member, except maybe Winslow.
It’s also important to note…Ruuds play last year got instantly better when they went back to the Tampa 2 style of play. So did most of the rest of the team on defense. Last year wasn’t the fault of the players, it was the fault of the staff. Period.
Thankfully, we now have a head caoch that is willing to change directions if he see’s things are not working.
Can you imagine Gruden changing directions for hte better like that? Not me. I didn’t hate the man, but he stuck with a plan whether it was good or not.

Off topic guys, but Stylez White’s latest training camp diary on, uh, another website (sorry Joe) that Joe hates is a pretty good read.
Among the highlights: GMC carries his pads and Penn is described as less “squishy”. LOL.

Eric-didn’t you say you have tickets to the Cleveland game?Way to get pumped up for the season.Tell you what-I’ll take those tickets off your hands for half price and you won’t have to sit thru the beat down you’re predicting.

@ Bob
“Tell you what-I’ll take those tickets off your hands for half price ”
Bob, that means you are overpaying the market value buddy.
The Bucs market is so bad that even scalpers don’t want to show up and get stuck with valueless tickets.
