Brian Price Feeling The Heat
July 21st, 2010A very giddy and incredibly playful Brian Price checked in today with the infamous King David Show on WQYK-AM, hosted by Toby David and former Bucs quarterback Shawn King.
Price was upbeat from the start after King introduced him as “Tampa’s newest millionaire.”
It’s “a dream come true but a job undone,” Price said. “I got paid for what I did in college.”
Price dropped the typical playerspeak but also explained that he’s already in Tampa training specifically to acclimate himself to the humidity.
Joe’s lived in Los Angeles, Price’s hometown, and Joe vividly remembers people literally going outside during a rainstorm to drink beer and play because it was such a rare event. There’s no doubt that Price will have a huge adjustment from his days in the dry climates of the Pac-10.
Beyond that, Price said he’s thinking of buying an all black new Camaro.
Joe’s just ecstatic to have him coming to camp. The odds are pretty strong that he or Gerald McCoy will turn out to be a helluva player.

Welcome aboard, Mr. Price.
July 21st, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Those Camaro’s are hard to see out of… don’t buy one Price.
July 21st, 2010 at 5:34 pm
Oh No! The Kool-Aid drinkers are gonna call Joe a hater now.
Why?
Because Joe wrote “The odds are pretty strong that he or Gerald McCoy will turn out to be a helluva player.”
If Joe was a TRUE Bucs fan he would have used the word BOTH!!!!!
Joe you’re just a hater!!!!! 😉
Welcome to the Club, the Club of realists’

c’mon Joe, tell us what he signed for.
July 21st, 2010 at 5:57 pm
@tampa2 – WHO CARES????
For ONCE I’m making a serious statment: WHO CARES?
Price signed, he’ll be in training camp and hopefully he’ll kick some azz!

However you feel about the organization; you’ve got to really like this guy. He has a great attitude and work ethic. Hopefully he will be someone they can build around.

Brian Price’s deal:
4 Years – $1.8 million/year
Signing Bonus – $2.7 Million
July 21st, 2010 at 6:20 pm
A black Camaro will be hot, Bryan. Try adding Gold, Silver or White Stripes to look cool while cooling it off a little. I remember when SS Motorsports built Alstott’s 69′. It is Pewter with Red Stripes, Convertible Top and the Seats are official NFL Football leather/pigskin with bumps and laces. It also has like a 560 cid Big Block and around 800 horses or so.
July 21st, 2010 at 6:25 pm
The man does look very impressive in his highlight reel.
July 21st, 2010 at 7:52 pm
He got an increase in guaranteed money over last year. I thought the “cheap” Glazers did not pay guaranteed money?
July 21st, 2010 at 7:58 pm
I like Price’s size. He isn’t as long as some of the other DTs but his center of gravity is extremely low. It may help him get his power underneath the shoulders of the OL and drive them into the QB or at least on running plays stop them from rerouting him. We will soon know and I am excited as all get-out.

Jimbuc:
Every player in the same spot gets a COLA compared to last years draft! (it floats from 3-10% based on the neogiation)!
Neary all draft picks get signed. Even teams ranked 32nd in the nfl sign draft picks.
July 21st, 2010 at 8:13 pm
Thomas — I know that. How much was his over last year? Wouldn’t you expect a “cheap” team to pay less than most, to not sign guys early? To not pay guaranteed money?
July 21st, 2010 at 8:14 pm
Thomas — again with the invisible friend arguments. Has anyone suggested that the Bucs might not sign their picks?
July 21st, 2010 at 8:20 pm
Like a homer you credit ownership for the early signing instead of the player and agent. B/c that is all you do try to spin everything as a Glazer-positive.
I credit the player for wanting to sign before the market sets itself. Price said he didnt care, he just wanted to get his COLA and start preparing.
That is a great attitude, and it may cost him a little which he admitted. So no this signing doesnt say anything about the org yet – Price and I expect that it will turn out that he left $ on the table – which we know the Glazer-boys will be thrilled about.
July 21st, 2010 at 8:30 pm
Thomas — last night you said that the Glazers and Dom conspired to sign Price because they knew they could take advantage of Price and his agent. LMAO. That’s so stupid it is tough to type.
Now the player gets credit but not the owner. LMAO
July 21st, 2010 at 8:40 pm
@JimBuc – why should the Glazers get credit for signing a 2nd round draft pick for an “average” amount of $? That makes no sense at all.
July 21st, 2010 at 8:46 pm
ABSOLUTELY THE PLAYER GETS THE CREDIT UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES! Every journalist who has covered this has in some form documented how price and his agent wanted to get this done.
Yesterday – I proposed a theory admitting it was just that the org may have capitalized on an opportunity with a rookie agent and anxious player – but I really dont care about that.
The signing of a draft pick is NEVER a reason to celebrate the org!

It would mean more if they muster up enough to defeat Cleveland, and then the Panthers.
If they do that, credit will be forthcoming.
It is an easy formula, pretty much league-wide. The field determines the accolades.
What the heck, the 1978 bucs won 5 games! And McKay had to build totally from scratch!
Surely the dream ought to be able to do that, with a ready made offensive line, running backs, linebackers, and a damn good secondary.

sorry, that wasnt all that great to say twice!
July 21st, 2010 at 9:06 pm
Thomas — way to run away from your own “theory.”
Mr. Lucky — Joe did not give them credit. He just said it put a “dent” in the cheap theory (because they sign a 2nd round pick early at an 8% increase over last years guaranteed money — hardly consistent with being “cheap”) and people on this site cannot wait to shout Joe down and claim it is a NEGATIVE. Take for instance Thomas, who suggested a conspiracy (see above). The landscape is so skewed that you and others take nuetral commentary as giving undue credit. Too funny.

I don’t think that is a neutral comment! Pro-owner/Pro-Glazer or anti-Thomas yes. Neutral – no!
July 21st, 2010 at 9:24 pm
Lucky — you need to read more to get the context. But hey, believe what you want.
July 21st, 2010 at 9:36 pm
I have a yellow Camaro..The black one would be awesome…do consider adding, as BigMacAttack, some stripes..It is a great ride.
July 21st, 2010 at 9:53 pm
All I can say is:
10 MORE DAYS TILL TRAINING CAMP!!!!!!!!!
July 21st, 2010 at 10:20 pm
Price got about 8% more than the 35th pick last year. I’d say that’s slightly above the rate of inflation…
July 21st, 2010 at 10:58 pm
Matt that cannot be true! 🙂

This JimBuc fellow seems to have an unrealisticly high expectation of the Buccaneers this year, while also being lodged firmly up the Glazer’s arse, deep in there.
It’s as if he is a troll of some sort purposely instigating the JBF messages.
Hmmmm.
Well JimBuc, unlike you I have Zero Expectations for this team. No logical person would think otherwise. Well, unless you were a Glazer fan. Seriously, though, a Glazer fan?
The same owners who fired Tony Dungy. The same owners who traded away multiple first and second round picks year after year (yet yo amusingly blame Gruden and Allen for not rebuilding the Bucs even though they had no draft picks and aging veterans, BECAUSE of the Glazers wanting to win more with the pro-bowlers). The same owners who fired Gruden. The same owners who promoted a defensive backs coach to defensive coordinator, then skipped Rich Bisatchia (spelling), and somehow decided that Raheem Morris was the guy for the job? Really? As if Raheem has outstanding interviewing and communication skills? Really???
What if the Glazers ‘deviously’ hired Morris to be the fall guy, the do boy, the yes man? Hasn’t that ever crossed your mind? And yet you back and defend every single move the Glazers make? REALLY?

This is a bigger deal than people think. Although most agree Price has alot of skills, conditioning was his weakest part. Add the fact that he will be acclimating to FL weather, there WILL need to be a rotation with DTs.
The coaching staff said as much, and they will be proven right the first time Miller comes in gets a sack, followed by price/GMC later and he gets a sack.
July 22nd, 2010 at 8:07 am
The discussion about where the credit is due for his signing is amusing. The credit doesn’t go to one side or the other, it goes to EVERYONE involved. They all had a piece in making this happen.
Price gets credit for wanting to get this done and leaving some $$ on the table.
Agent gets credit for following player’s wishes and not convincing him to prolong this. Remember he is a young man out of college, so his agent’s opinion will be very important to him. Only when his agent says “this is fair” would Price have done this.
The org. gets credit for not trying to take advantage and low-balling him. An 8% raise seems more than fair. Its insane to suggest him being the highest pick signed means nothing as far as Doms competence. Please stop that BS. Just as insane to suggest the owners had anything to do with it. If you think Dom has to ask permission to perform trivial duties for his job such as signing draft picks (outside 1st round) then there is no hope for you.
July 22nd, 2010 at 10:48 am
I do not think he left anything on the table. The increase is typically 3 – 10%, he received 8% over. That is on the high end of things. I am just happy to hear he siggned, and one more piece is in place.
July 22nd, 2010 at 8:14 pm
I think this will/should be the top pickin the 2011 draft salary.
4 Years – $1.8 million/year (Maybe 3 years )
Signing Bonus – $2.7 Million (3 million)
I wish Price nothing but success I think he will be very good in our Tampa2 Hybrid system. Price Miller McCoy a real good rotation will be made with these three..
Cant wait till Training Camp opens. Even though i am here in the desert of Arizona still excited!!! Go Bucs!!
