Bucs Rushing Defense Must Improve
May 27th, 2010There are two things that are prerequisites to start the workday for Joe:
1) Mass quantities of caffeine. A 16-oz. bottle of Diet Mountain Dew and a 20-oz. cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee — black — is usually inhaled before 8 a.m.
2) Howard Stern.
The King of All Media, now heard exclusively on Sirius satellite radio, has been a daily fixture for Joe and a morning ritual for some 18 years. When that guy retires, it will be like a death in the family.
So yesterday morning, Joe heard Stern talk about a contest that he’s planning that will have guys with foot fetishes blindfolded, and they would have to smell people’s feet to determine which is a man’s smelly feet and which is a woman’s.
For some reason, the thought of sniffing fungus-encrusted toes sprang to mind the Jim Bates Experiment.
This abortion of a stunt last year with the Bucs defense, this Jim Bates Experiment, smelled worse than a overflowing septic tank much less people’s feet. Joe’s nostrils flared just looking at the numbers.
Last season the Bucs coughed up nearly a heinous five yards a carry — five yards!!! Well, 4.8 yards to be precise, but Joe assumes you get the drift. It was the worst in the NFL in 2009.
The Bucs were so horrid with the rushing defense, they gave up 25 running plays of 20-yards or more. That’s 25!!! No other team in the NFL had more than 19.
Opposing running backs gushed through the Bucs defense so bad, even British Petroleum officials had to turn their backs.
It’s no wonder Bucs general manager Mark Dominik drafted two rookie defensive tackles with his first two picks. But was the defensive front the only problem with the Bucs stopping the run? Time will tell.
To depend on two rookies and a second-year player to all of a sudden stop the rush is asking a lot. Joe sure hopes Gerald McCoy and Brian Price are up to the task.

Uh . . .okay. It is definitely late-May.

Good to see Joe is a fellow Stern fan. There’s no one more under-appreciated in the media than Howard Stern. He’s paved the way for many after him that don’t even realize the magnitude of his influence.

I saw Stern on the red carpet at the Sex and the city 2 premier…
WTF????
Howard Stern of 15 years ago would laugh at Howard Stern of today.

Steve:
Stern is friends with one of those broads and Stern’s youngest daughter is addicted to the show so he accepted a VIP invite so he could bring his daughter and wife.
What’s worse is Stern watches Dancing with the Stars. Any dude who watchest that tripe has either been gelded or is a Village People-type.

He also watches American Idol…which is just as bad…

Joe,
Now I know what you ment yesterday when you responded to my post with “Joe can’t pass up a good post when he sees one, like tomorrow morning for example.” How many more do you already have in the “can” that we can look forward to? For some reason mentioning Stern, foot fetishes, smelly feet, fungus-encrusted toes, and an overflowing septic tank didn’t make this post any more relivant or palitable. In response to your last paragraph, I do believe that the 2 high draft pick rookies will be an improvement over what we had last year and should make a difference in helping to stop the run.

I seem to remember a certain Micheal Bush running like a raped bull against the Bucs. If I’m not mistaken it was Grudens last game as a coach .And Kiffens too. Maybe this Bucs defense was in big trouble before the Bates experiment. Just a thought.

Poor dead horse…..things been dead for month and Joe still tees off on it like Beltre on a Garza pitch 😛

If run defense improves this year, will be because of scheme that’s better suited to personnel. Black and Hayes getting a years experience will help a little. I think McCoy and Price are both going to become Beast, but not as rookies, it’ll take a year or two. I do believe that Miller is an upgrade. I can’t believe Ryan Sims is still here, after the year he had last year.

Anyone remember the time when a team with Jamarcus Russell as starting QB beat us at home to keep us from going to the playoffs? It may be the single biggest reason Gruden was canned despite another winning record.
On Stern, I always find it amusing about how little he knows about sports. He’ll show up to Knicks games but is admittedly clueless about that stuff. I laugh when he tries to make a point on news about an athlete that he’s never heard before or will hear again based on the information he knows. The ochocinco rant was a good example of this.
