Have The Bucs Written Off Golden Tate?
April 3rd, 2010Now Joe doesn’t get all worked up about what college guy is interviewing with what NFL team and all that type of pre-draft hype.
Teams interview lots of guys. That just doesn’t get Joe all excited like, say, a hot tub encounter with Carmella Garcia or a winning trifecta ticket at Derby Lane (in that order, of course).
But Joe does make some exceptions. One would be Golden Tate, the former Notre Dame wide receiver.
Count Joe as one of the manly men watching the endless combine coverage on the NFL Network. And seeing Tate perform there really caught Joe’s eye. The guy just stood out with his quickness, hands and speed. There’s something very special there. (And no, it had nothing to do with the gold shoes and ridiculously tight pants he was wearing).
Joe would love to see Tate in a Bucs uniform. But as of now, the Bucs haven’t shown much interest, so Tate told NFL Draft guru Justin Pawlowski on the airwaves on WDAE-AM 620. (You can listen to the entire interview here). Tate said he has yet to visit the Bucs or talk to them since the combine.
Tate told an interesting story about how defrocked Fighting Irish head coach Charlie Weis told him last summer that he could play in the NFL but would need to prove himself with a benchmark number of touchdowns and yardage in 2009. …Tate hit those lofty goals.
Again, Joe doesn’t get all worked up about visits, but Joe would sleep better knowing Tate is high on the draft board deep in the bowels of One Buc Palace.

I heard the interview with Big Paw today……
very impressed with his intelligence and ability to express himself( Golden Tate)…..he is a consensus top 40 in the draft….I’d have zero problem with the first pick in the 2nd round.
Nice show today ….damn can you run that mouth !

Maybe we are doing this on purpose , as a smokescreen to make other teams think we dont want him.
But then again, I doubt Dumbinik is this clever…

Wow, quickness, hands, and speed.
That would be a most pleasant upgrade. And, the kid sounds like he actually took advantage of his educational opportunity at ND.
Refreshing change from the Dez Bryant comments.
Count me in!

I am not suprised Tate is kinda of small but dont get me wrong he is a beast and when Clausen flops you will know iit is cause he no longer have tate to throw too. Tate is a steve smith type, but with his small frame the Bucs beleive they have that already in Stroughter. Think the Bucs will go after Benn who is a gamble 5 Td’s in 3 years and 1 of them was a punt Return he only had 29 catches last year. Hope they go after Thomas and Shipley or decker think we will draft 2 recivers

Round 3.
Before that Willams (USC), LaFell (LSU), Thomas (Ga Tech) are all better in my opinion and at least one will be available.

I REALLY wish people will stop saying Shipley in round 2. You people are kidding right?
He is a slot WR, nothing more. At best he is a 3rd rounder. More than likely he will be there in round 4.

@ Dave I think shipley will be a 4th rounder too

I think its safe to say that a lot of teams do not express interest in guys they plan on drafting. With the exception of Josh Freeman last year, how many draft picks were worked out here in Tampa? Considering the size and lack of speed we have at receiver I think Tate would be a great compliment. He’s the closest thing to Steve Smith/DeSean Jackson type player in this draft, and should be ready to step in and play right away.

Shipley ran a 4.6 at the combine . He will go in the 2nd round when pigs fly…
