Bucs Won’t Trade “That Pick” For Marshall

April 7th, 2010

There’s no question the Bucs need to beef up their receiver corps this season, if for no other reason than to help out second-year quarterback Josh Freeman.

Lots of Bucs fans have pined for Brandon Marshall, a troubled wide receiver with Denver, so much they just might give up their left… um, well… pinkie for the Bucs to trade for Marshall.

Per NFL insider Chris Mortensen of the thought police state BSPN, Mort Twittered last night, implying the Bucs just might do that. Just not with “that pick.”

@Atrainliner Do you think the Bucs trade for Marshall or go with McCoy or Berry?

@mortreport They’re not trading that pick for BM.

Hhhhmmm? What exactly did Mort mean by using the words “that pick?” What pick would Mort be referring to, one of the Bucs’ second round picks?

Could Mort be implying that Bucs general manager Mark Dominik is actually in negotiations with Denver to acquire Marshall?

Joe wonders?

This sounds like grasping for a story from a 60 character tweet. I really think all Mort was saying is that he doesn’t believe the Bucs wouldn’t trade the #3 overall pick for Marshall, but in Mort’s estimation, perhaps another. Not necessarily that he has any inside info on the matter.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to get Brandon Marshall in here, but if the asking price dipped below the 32nd pick in the draft, I feel a lot of teams would get involved, and very likely outbid the Bucs.

  2. factoidboy Says:

Pick 35 for Marshall??? -Fingers and eyes crossed- Oh please oh please oh please oh please…

  3. zech Says:

I hope we get marshall but the redskins will pay more for him and they still might get dez bryant

  4. Danny Cap Says:

If that deal is possible, for our second rounder, then I have no idea why it hasnt been done yet. Im sure the Broncos are standing pat, hoping someone gives them a first.

One of our second rounders and a conditional 3rd is about as much as id give up for him.

  5. Leighroy Says:

Use some common sense. McCoy and Berry? That guy’s talking about “that” 3rd overall pick. How is this even a story? That’s the biggest no brainer ever.

  6. zech Says:

Hey it could be suh at the 3rd overall but if he’s gone we should trade back with denver because if we won’t the redskins will!!

  7. dakid5 Says:

zech come on man.. dont u think if a team was going to trade a first round pick for brandon marshall it would have been done already? if he gets traded its going to be a second round pick zech the redskins dont have a second round pick the bucs have 2 high second rounders. The redskins already have a nice tandem of wrs if they were to get a WR i see them taking TO not BMARSH. The biggest need for the redskins now is a LT if okung is gone and they cant trade back i see them taking the next best olineman if bradford is off the board.

  8. Danny Cap Says:

The redskins arent going to make a move for Marshall. Mcnabb has been successful with far worse recievers than what the redskins have. I bet the redskins go with Moss and Devin Thomas as there combo, and see what they get out of it. Lots of 2 TE sets in Washington this season with Shanahans offence and the emergence of Fred Davis.

  9. Eric Says:

How about switching first rounders with Denver, picking up Marshall, select McClain or Berry at the 11 spot, then trade a number two to the skins for Fat Albert?

  10. Danny Cap Says:

That my friend would be special. 2B Alualu and I may have a heart attack.

  11. zech Says:

i like that idea eric im just sayn shannahan would trade a next year first rounder for marshall!

  12. Tom Says:

Are we really going to read into a tweet from a twit about how the Bucs wouldn’t spare their 3rd overall pick for BM?

Hell, maybe fans should ask me that question.

Joe could ask me,”Will someone trade a pair of used golf balls for Michael Clayton?”

    My response would be “No.”

Then Joe could post a report that stated that, based on that response a team might be interested in offering ONE used golf ball for Michael Clayton, or atleast a wooden tee.

  13. Joe Says:

    Tom:

A used wooden tee perhaps. 🙂

  14. Radio Mushmouth Says:

The questioner asked if they’d trade the pick instead of drafting McCoy or Berry.

This implies the 1st round pick.

That is why Mort said ” no they won’t trade THAT pick” .

  15. drdneast Says:

Noone, I repeat noone, will give a first round pick for Marshall.
GM’s in the NFL know the Broncos want to get rid of him so there is no reason to give up a permium pick to get him. With his baggage, a lot of teams might not even give up a two. The guy is good, but he is not a Randy Moss, Steve Smith or even a Wesly Welker for that matter. He is more of an 2008 Antonio Bryant type.

  16. drdneast Says:

You know the Apocalypse is near when you see a wide refeiver like Marashall toss the ball to an offensive lineman to spike and thank all of his lineman for holding thier blocks so he could get loose. “I didn’t do it by myself. It took the other 10 guys doing thier part in order for me to make the play,” a humble Terrell Owens said. Yeah, right.

Sorry late to the party, but i had to come to the defense of the BEAST that is Brandon Marshall. For all u Bucs fan lobbying for the B-marsh he is all it’s cranked up to be and if your team can get him for a high 2nd or even a high 2nd and 4th then management should jump on it.Secondly the comparing him to A.Bryant is a insult and i don’t mean that to down Bryant, but has he had 3 consecutive 100 reception seasons?NO does he have a 18 catch gm how about a 21 catch game and has he done it with Kyle Orton as QB.As for Randy Moss and Steve Smith there is a new sherriff in town and they call him the BEAST.Also when the jets revis describes randy moss he calls him slotch when he describes brandon it’ BEAST.THE nickname comes from his peers not fans.Had the jets had the BEAST then they would have won that afc championship game .When the price comes down a lot of teams will be calling and some will be calling to keep thier rivals from getting him because he’s a unstoppable BEAST.
