Tackling Post-Draft Public Relations

March 29th, 2010

Manbeast Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy?

Which one is the Bucs’ savior at defensive tackle?

Former Bucs defensive end Steve White isn’t sold that either one will be available for the Bucs with their No. 3 pick. And if the Bucs do, in fact, draft one of these guys, White is certain the Bucs need to prepare to tell the world not to expect much from him in 2010.

White makes the case on his blog that the Bucs need to scale back expectations in a hurry, something they haven’t done yet in regards to the 2010 draft.

If they can perhaps get fans to have lower expectations heading into their rookie season then if they go out and shine they look even better. And if they’re average then at least some fans might be more willing to be patient with them. To me that’s the ideal situation you should want for your 1st round pick regardless so they can go out and perform without the worry that every mistake they make will be under a magnifying glass. Its worth a try at least.

White makes an interesting case backed up by stats and his wealth of experience. Check it out. And don’t forget to catch White’s popular Bull Rush column on JoeBucsFan.com on Wednesday or Thursday.

Excellent and realistic points raised by Mr. White.

Unfortunately I think the bucs have already blown the expectations game because they have put so much focus on this one draft, how it is the best one in years, etc. etc. Their reluctance to sign FA;s also contributes to expectations IMO.

Getting any major contributors to the 2010 season is very unlikely.

Additionally, if they go into the season with this current receiving corp, and it causes regression in Josh Freeman, IMO many Buccaneer fans are going to go from generally angry to completely unglued.

They’re expecting to get 11 starters out of this draft. It ain’t going to happen.

    Eric:

You can critique Clear Channel personalities for being wrong all day long. Just can’t get personal.

    Joe,

Such a long list would be exhausting, but I get your drift. Love the cite, no problems from Eric.

Back on the draft, I read that the Rams are going to have a private workout with Bradford, a couple of days before the draft, and the head coach will have lunch with him also. Speculation is that they will take him if satisfied there are no health issues.

Probably meaningless, but at least they are seriously looking at the guy it appears.

Im strongly hoping Mr. Suh is in Pewter this year.
