Sabby’s Got Company
March 16th, 2010Looks like the Bucs have made their first offseason move on the defensive side of the ball.
Free agent safety Sean Jones is now a Buccaneer, so reported the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig, just moments ago on WDAE-AM 620.
Sabby the Goat will be pushed hard as Raheem The Dream tries to “fix” him. This also means linebacker Jermaine Phillips and his fragile limbs seemingly have no shot of returning for an eighth season in Tampa.
Jones, 28, is a legitimate NFL player with plenty of starts under his belt although not a star. He played for the Eagles last year on a one-year $3 million deal to replace Brian Dawkins, per the Soviets at BSPN.com.
He had two interceptions and a sack in nine starts last year.
That’s already an upgrade over the goat.

Good signing… for once.

I like this signing a lot, put Sabby the Goat on special teams

If nothing else, it helps solidify the position and takes the pressure off Sabby to learn more.

Duemig is a fraud. He is getting his info directly from Dominik so he’s not going to say anything negative about the Bucs. He used to hold this team accountable but not anymore. What a p***.

Finally, good sign. Can’t wait to see him on the field. Now for some Wr’s… I hope

I was holding out hope that we’d land him. He’s not a star but is a talent and could develop under Raheem. He’s like a healthier Flip. Decent in coverage and can help with the run.
One less position to have to worry about with our high draft picks. I still say we invest a mid round pick in another safety. Kudos to Dominik for getting this done.

I agree with you Finerdetailz! He won’t criticize the Bucs but he has no problem practically calling for Joe Maddon to be fired. Ridiculous!

We need T.O.
March 16th, 2010 at 6:45 pm
That is the noteworthy thing about the signing,Tommy Boy–creates a little added flexibility in the draft.
Does anyone know if Sean played free safety for Philly?? I think he did, so maybe moving back to his natural position will help his career. He was one of the steadier strong safeties in the league with Cleveland.
Unlike most folks it seems,I haven’t completely given up on Sabby. But at least now the Bucs will have options at the spot.

Sabby can see he is special on special teams here we go bucs now pull offf that Marshall trade

Kudos to Dominik for the signing. Who knows, might light a fire under Sabby and he could shed the goat ears………..

Who broke the scoop again? Steve Duemig?
Are Duemig and Dominik fast becoming BFF’s??
And finally, next year when Team Glazer hires a new GM to replace Dumbinik will I care???

Seems like a decent pickup. Interesting that the Bucs keep picking up ex-Eagles. I think this one seems better than the Reggie Brown one. Why did Jones only start 9 games? Did he get hurt or replaced? Curious about that.
Agree with the sentiments of some of the posters about Duemig. I just hope I am not on the streets when he is driving.

Finally something thats going to help a depleated defense! I was a hugh fan of Sabby when we drafted him, he was solid at Oregan St. but that obviously didnt come with him while being starter last year. Sean Jones is going to fit that scheme perfect back there with T-jac. 6-1 220 pds hes not gonna just get trucked and get bounced off during tackles…at his best he had 111 tackles in 06. Im loving this pick up and hopefully we can see some smart picks come draft day! Mccoy to sure up the line and would love to see a trade for marshall! I think the ’10 season would be alot easier to swallow with that addition!

Dumbinik is definitely feeding Duemeg insider info….and that is why Duemeg is the only man in Tampa defending DUmbinik’s stupid moves, lol.
Although this was a good move. Should be a good competition for strong safety now. Sean Jones is DEFINITETLY an upgrade over Will Allen , and possibly an upgrade over Sabby if Sabby doesn’t continue to improve.

I read this on TBO pretty early. Anyway, I like the pick up. I also think Brown may surprise some people in Tampa. He may be the next Ike.
