What Exactly Is Eye-RAH! Kaufman Suggesting?
February 16th, 2010Joe is fond of Twitter. It’s a great (free) source of information that is actually much quicker than most major sports sites, and is a good way to contact various high profile people.
The downside to Twitter is that users are limited to 140 characters per post. Not much room to write in detail.
So this makes the recent post on the TBO Bucs Twitter feed by eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune all the more intriguing. It was like a cliffhanger of a 24 episode.
This is too important a draft for the Bucs. They must cash in on these premium picks and they need a fresh pair of eyes helping them.
What exactly is Kaufman getting at, need a fresh pair of eyes?
Does Kaufman believe that Dennis Hickey, the Bucs director of college scouting, is not up to the task?
Does Kaufman think that general manager Mark Dominik should not choose the players?
Does Kaufman believe that Doug Williams’ heart isn’t in his work since he was lobbying hard for a college job recently?
Or is Kaufman hinting that former Bucs director of college scouting Tim Ruskell, currently unemployed, should be brought in as a consultant?
Ruskell ran the Bucs college scouting department when it loaded up on future Hall of Famers like John Lynch, Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks (not Father Dungy as the Dungyphiles would have you believe).
Hiring Ruskell as a consultant would be a brilliant move, but is it too late? Joe wonders how much this would disrupt the Bucs organization to bring in a big-name guy as a scouting consultant just days away from the NFL combine?
Besides, it’s not as if Dominik had a horrible draft last year in his first stab at running the Bucs.

In my humble opinion, every bit of knowledge helps. Ruskell has had success drafting in the past so why not? We need to start drafting Pro Bowlers again. This draft can literally turn our team around because of the depth, therefore, the brass needs to bring in everyone who can attribute to making it a success.
