Raheem The Dream Needs Six Wins To Keep Job

February 23rd, 2010

Some Bucs fans are so unnerved by the fact Raheem the Dream is returning as coach in 2010, they may actually root against the Bucs in the hopes he won’t return for another season.

If that is the case, then the Bucs need to drop at least 11 games. That’s the theory floated by eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune in a recent Bucs question-and-answer article on TBO.com.

Q: If we execute well in the draft, free agency, and coaching, what do you see as a realistic number of wins for 2010? What do you feel the minimum number of wins is for 2010 to keep the current coaching staff intact post 2010?

Will Pearce, Sarasota

A: Six wins might be enough to show progress to the Glazers, allowing the current regime to continue to the 2011 season — if there is a 2011 football season.

Your points are valid. The schedule appears much softer this fall and the Bucs have every opportunity to add at least three new starters in this draft if they select wisely. If Freeman is markedly improved in his second season, there is no reason Tampa Bay can’t at least double its win total. Another 3-13 or even 4-12 shouldn’t be tolerated.

eye-RAH! Kaufman

Joe pretty much agrees with Kaufman but isn’t sure if six wins will actually do it. It might take toying with a .500 record for Raheem the Dream to return in 2011. That is, if there is a 2011 season.

    6 wins my ass…he needs at least 8 .

The NFL stands for Not For Long and 3-13 , 6-10 isn’t gonna cut it . It had better be the prettiest 6-10 the world has ever seen!

  2. Eric Says:

I think we are looking at the wrong numbers. The level of tolerance for the number of wins the Dream obtains is directly correlated to his low ass salary.

I could see him keeping his job after 6 wins if the losses are due to injuries or something else outside of his realm. However, injuries are mostly a result of poor condition coaches. Regardless, Bucs fans will buy tickets if we have excitement on one side of the ball this year. Massive defense that loses only because the offsense is sputtering or exciting offense that can’t score as much as our defense gives up.

Have strength on one side of the ball would be an improvement.

I agree with six wins but it depends on how those six wins and ten losses look. You can’t blame Raheem for the lack of talent. If the Bucs are playing hard and are competitive then he keeps his job. If the Bucs were to win their first six and then drop ten in a row well….you know….

  5. Matt Says:

Six wins plus Freeman showing he is a franchise QB should do it. Freeman is the wild card.

Injuries, sadly, are part of the game. Joe can only think of two or three Bucs players that should give any coach a pass if they are injured: Freeman, Faine and/or Penn.

When Faine was injured and Sean Mayhem replaced him, every pass play was an absolute jailbreak up the middle.

I suppose we will find out in the coming months whether the Glazer’s are going to get the man the necessary material to have a chance at a decent record, or continue 22 million under the cap(leads the league) and maintain the farce. Im thinking the latter.

  8. Louie Says:

The way the owners are behaving, its hard to predict what will happen after the upcoming season. Most if not all the coaching contracts are set to expire after this season. If there is a lockout, its possible the Glazers would just cut everyone loose and save the money. From the start, I think the hiring of Morris was a band-aid approach to get through the 2010 season. After that, I think the Glazers are prepared to start over with a coaching staff.

“Jailbreak” – I like the visual.

I don’t think you can go by record alone. If we end up 6-10, but we are a solid competetive team that plays well but loses those 10 games by small margins…I think he is safe.

If we go 6-10 but our wins come against horrible teams and we get completly blown out and look like garbage in our loses….I think he goes.

Personally I think we can win 8 or 9 games next year. All depends on how successful this offseason is. We will be a very young team again, and will likely start off slow…but if we get the Lions, Browns, and Rams early we could still win those games.

Our schedule next year looks like the easiest i can remember, and rightly so.

Given how the defense played late in the year, reverting back to C2, and if we get in a solid offseason and players stay healthy, i could def see 8+ wins, i wouldn’t even be shocked with a wild card berth, this is what happens in the NFL, teams turn things around quick.

Given this schedule, 6 wins or less would be a complete joke. We basically play the 4 worst teams in the league in 2009, other than us.

  12. JDouble Says:

Besides the three worst teams (Lions, Rams, Browns) we play the Seahawks again, and we play the Cardinals who are losing Kurt Warner, Aquan Boldin, and thier best Linenacker in Larlos Dansby. The Panthers also might be a horrible team next year. So we really do have some winnable games.

I think the 49ers and Redskins will be much better than people expect next year. I don’t think those will be easy games at all.

Raheem I would love to see us get peppers and then get suh and maybe boldin or marshall to helpout freemen cuz clayton is not goin to help he sux as well as stovall !

  14. Jonny Says:

JDouble, I like the optimism but eight wins is not an easy task for a young team. All the horrible teams we will face, I see atleast one loss over there, of course we could also win one more against the Saints. I am expecting this team to be inconsistent for the most of next season, they may win 6 by beating tougher opponents and losing games they should actually win. If Freeman picks up his game, that is plenty.

  15. Eric Says:

By my calculations, the Bucs paid Clayton $469,000.00 per catch…………..not bad work if you can get it.

Were more than capable of losing to the Rams, Browns, Lions and the Cardinals will blow us out, without Warner.

  16. JDouble Says:

I didn’t really mean 8 or 9 as a prediction, even though that’s how it came out. What I meant is we could easily win anywhere between 6 to 10 games and I would not be overly surprised. Now if we win less than 6 or more than 10, I’d be downright shocked. So 8 being right in the middle of 6 and 10 is my general guess. I’d be very happy with a .500 season next year as long as the team shows progression.

how about the Glazers just getting a “real” Head Coach & his staff to come in here. The experiment didn’t work.
