Jamie Dukes Of The NFL Network Talks To Joe
February 22nd, 2010During media day of Super Bowl week, Joe got the chance to talk to a lot of media elite. One of which was Jamie Dukes of the NFL Network.
Dukes, a former offensive lineman for the Falcons, Packers and Cardinals, he was also a four-time All-American guard for Florida State.
Dukes took a few moments from his broadcast duties to discuss the Bucs with Joe.
JoeBucsFan.com: So, your perception from the NFL Network studios, what’s up with the Bucs?
Jamie Dukes: Well, they are a team in transition. I think they wasted too much time getting that young kid in there, Freeman, in there at quarterback. Every rep that he missed — once they found out they were out of the playoff hunt which was pretty early, he should have been in.
That being said, I like the direction. If Freeman can develop as a pro and as a player, I think he will be fine.
Joe: Prior to the season, the Bucs offensive line really seemed to be on the cusp of doing something special. They took a step back last year. Was that because they were trying to incorporate zone blocking?
Dukes: I think injuries had a part to do with it. Certainly, any time you are in transition… hey, Jon Gruden was a heck of a football coach. He had a good scheme. [The offensive line] was in a mode of transition. And they got caught with some injuries and nicks and bruises. That was the reason.
Joe: Will the Glazers have enough patience to stick with Raheem Morris if the Bucs struggle early?
Dukes: I don’t like all the turnover there. You’ve gone through two coordinators. The continuity is not good. Someone should have known these guys [fired coordinators Jim Bates and Jeff Jagodzinski) were not who you wanted. That’s a little troubling; now you have basically burned a year. This league is a little funny about that. They don’t give you a lot of time to make mistakes.
If you are not winning, and then you add to that you have a young coach… I don’t know if [Morris] will have the latitude that someone like a Mike Shanahan would have if he would have come in there. You can’t afford to make those mistakes [fired coordinators midway through first year]. It will be interesting to see how it plays itself out.

Jamie Dukes is an idiot .. So are OL struggled because of injuries ??? Really .. Funny Jeff Faine missed a few weeks .. He came back .. Still struggled .. Please dont tell me Arron Sears was the sole reason why .. Why wasnt he in the Pro Bowl if he was the key to our whole O-Line instead of Joseph .. Our O-Line is above average but were in a tweener scheme without good coaching .. I guarantee you put our O-Line with the New York Jets or Giants coaches and they would be somewhat successful
Just because these guys work at NFL Network doesnt mean they know much … Of Anything

jvato24:
Don’t forget that Jeremy Zuttah, who replaced Sears, was knicked up as well.

THe O-line ought to be the least of our worries. Given the investment in it over the years, the material is there.
Whether the dream and company can utilize it properly is a gigantic question mark.
