Richard Mann Perhaps On His Way Out?
January 11th, 2010At the risk of assuming this is not agent-driven speculation, Joe has learned via the Mad Twitterer’s musings on his Twitter feed that the Bucs have allowed wide receivers coach Richard Mann to seek another employer.
Bucs have given WRs coach Richard Mann permission to interview with another NFL team. Will impact Bucs’ ability to re-sign Antonio Bryant
Joe suspects that Bryant’s relationship with Bucs pro player personnel director Doug Williams may also play a role. Williams had his contracte extended by a year recently and Joe cannot help but wonder if that was mostly due to Bryant’s contract expiring.

While I’ve heard Mann is a really great guy, I’m kinda glad to see he’s finally been given the boot. I was hoping he might be shown the door when the coaching change was made last year. I’ve blogged on various sites over the past year that, while everyone is lamenting that we haven’t had decent WR production in years, no one has even mentioned Mann’s name. The last decent WR group was in 2002 (and that was with established vets). Outside of Galloway (and one year of Clayton and Bryant) we haven’t had a WR step forward since then. Not saying Mann was given first-round talent every year to work with, but other than Stroughter I can’t think of one WR he’s developed in the last 8 years. And you would think that he would have had at least some input into the WR’s that were drafted or signed as FA’s.

And you have to think this doesn’t bode well for Clayton. Mann was probably his biggest backer (and a big part in his getting the contract he did) and is the main reason Clayton has been able to stick around as long as he has. I guess we’ll find out in the coming months.

Allen is going to start raiding the Bucs locker room. We can only hope he wants to trade for Clayton. Maybe we can get two draft picks for him like we did with Gaines Adams.

Thinking about the Clayton thing or the possibility of signing any big name free agent this season, if we have an uncapped year what is the real danger for signing big name free agents for big money on non guaranteed deals. I mean so we cut some body now dead money means nothing as there is no cap to count against right. So next year we can cut Clayton without a cap hit…because there is no cap right.

C’mon Mann.
I hope like hell Allen takes some of the dead weight and not so dead weight off their hands.

Hope Allen wants Sabby, Hovan, Clayton, Stovall, Trueblood, Penn, Stylez, Ward, and any other dead weigh I forgot and is willing to give up Redskins entire draft to get them!!! Dream big!
