“Raheem Did A Very, Very Good Job”

January 27th, 2010

The above headline is a quote pulled from Bucs general manager Mark Dominik’s State of the Bucs address to Tampa Bay area scribes who had to travel to Mobile, Ala. to hear it.

Dominik used the quote in the headline to discuss how motivated the Bucs were despite the lousy record, and was a reason why Raheem the Dream was retained, so documents Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.

Q: What kind of job do you think Raheem Morris did as head coach last year and why should he be back after a 3-13 season?

Dominik: I feel like Raheem did a very, very good job of keeping this football team upbeat and motivated. I think that was very, very important. I feel like Raheem did a fantastic job calling the defense and being head coach at the same time and I feel like it actually improved his head coaching ability. I think he had a chance to not only get back in the defensive meeting room, but I felt like he came even more alive in practices. I think he felt like he was a more integral part of what was going on, on both sides of the ball, but especially on defense.

In Joe’s eyes, for Raheem the Dream to return to the Bucs for a third season in 2012 (yes, you read that right), Raheem the Dream is going to have to do a spectacular job with the defense in 2010.

this interviewed answered all my questions bucs wont be big spenders in free agency another cheap year of being 30 million under the cap once dominik said that we wont sign nay big name free agents i gave up hope for this year and now i am almost positive the bucs will draft a o-lineman with the 3rd pick it would be the cheapest person to sign

I’m very, very certain that justin F is correct – forget Suh, forget McCoy and forget any big name WR FA.

Bye bye Bryant – you cost too much for the Bucs of this I’m very very certain.

It’s also very, very likely that next years team will look very very much like this years team; very, very mediocre and prone to mistakes and losses.

Actually I’m very, very depressed about this whole situation and very, very much in need of another Caybrew…

You cut a sentence in half which is decieving. What Dom said was “Raheem did a very, very good job of keeping this football team upbeat and motivated”….and he did. Anyone who doesn’t agree with that wasn’t paying attention last year.

Rheem certainly struggled at other aspects of coaching and showed multiple times that he was a rookie head coach, and in the end his team finished 3-13. That’s not what Dom commented on though. When strictly refering to keeping a team motivated and playing hard in shitty situations…Rheem was coach of the year.

Hey Joe let’s have a contest – to see which team signs Antonio Bryant…

I’m thinking Giants or Ravens but it’s early …

Couldn’t fit the entire quote into the headline and, as always, Joe linked to the original story. Joe also explained the context of the entire quote in the second paragraph.

So Joe wasn’t trying to deceive anyone.

JD – if it were only about keeping players motivated then yes I agree with you. I gotta admit that I was suprised that the Bucs didn’t just “mail it in…” after the London fiasco.

I’ll give Raheem props for taking over the defensive coordinator position and motivating the boys – grade: A-

But for other decisions such as play-calling, game prep and making half-time adjustments – grade: D

Now if I had to break it up into a first half vs. second half there is a HUGE difference. As for coach of the year – that HAS to go to the Jets coach for getting as far as they did. Raheem wouldn’t be in that category because lets face it the HC isn’t graded just on how they motivate their team it all comes down to win/loss in the NFL.

I agree that we won’t do anything in FA. Dom made it clear we are going to rebuild thru the draft and trades and aren’t really interested in FA. That doesn’t mean we won’t sign Suh or McCoy or any other big name in the draft. You guys are just being melodramatic.

Free Agency is for teams that are willing to over pay for players because they are on the brink. I really don’t blame Dom for not being interested inn FA this year. Especially when every free agent in this years pool will be about 30 years old because of the uncapped year rules. Why overpay for an old player in an auction type enviroment? If we were one guy away from a SB run, then sure…..but we ain’t.

Joe only gets defensive when someone suggests Joe is up to some sort of highjinks.

    Joe:

I wasn’t suggesting you were upto anything. Your title is a segamnt of a whole sentence and it is somewhat misleading….untill you read the article. It’s a method used often by all sorts of media outlets to get people to “tune in” Didn’t say you were upto no good or anything. You want people to read that headline and say “WHAT!?!? We went 3-13! WTF is he talking about!!?!” and be compelled to read the article….and I’m sure it works well. No reason to be offended.

  13. Joe Says:

    Thanks for the clarification JDouble.

Someone — Joe cannot remember who — in the recent past suggested that Joe was misleading in his headlines in a deliberate effort to fool people. That’s mainly why Joe had that comment.

    No harm, no foul. 🙂

Mr Lucky seems to think that Joe is referring to some outdated hand-held “rag” formerly know as P.R.
