Dominik Finishing Minor Tweaks
January 18th, 2010It seems Bucs beat writer Woody Cummings has been chasing Mark Dominik and finally caught the Bucs personnel czar in Orlando today.
Cummings says Raheem The Dream and Dominik’s scouting staff will maintain quite a bit of stability outside of a few position coach changes.
The only changes of note will probably include changes in assistants working with wide receivers, defensive linemen and defensive backs.
It appears as though Head Coach Raheem Morris will continue to do double duty as both coach and defensive coordinator and Greg Olson will likely get another year – and an invaluable offseason – to prove himself as the offensive coordinator.
Dominik confirmed that the Bucs have been scrutinizing their scouting staff and with that unit’s contracts collectively expiring after the draft there is a chance for change there as well.
Joe has to laugh at the implication here that Dominik may make significant changes to his scouting staff after the draft, when their contracts expire.
Uhh, shouldn’t some of those changes — or at least additions to the scouting team — be made before April’s draft. After all, with the Bucs plethora of picks, there’s really no time to wait to upgrade the scouting department.
As Raheem The Dream says, “you got to be your best self.”

Good point Joe. One of the most important drafts and we aren’t going to make changes until AFTERWARDS! What a sad state of affair this organization is in right now. Makes sense now why we are 3-13!

Also, DUMBminik looks like a tool in that photo Joe. I guess that’s why you chose it in the first place. Haha!

Dominik just reminds me of the typical 80’s business guy, like the character from Futurama.

Actually, I believe the Majority of the work that’s done by the Scouts is completed by the time the College Football Season is over. If a Change was to be made, it would or should have happened Last Year BEFORE this last College Football Season had Completed.

I had to read that last paragraph for a second time to make sure my eyes were not lying. Are these jackasses actually gonna wait til after what is the most important drafts in team history, to change the scouting department i agree Tommy makes a bunch of sense now why we suck.

Joe, I couldn’t agree more. This has been a reactive regime, lead by Dominick & Morris. It’s is time to be proactive.
Good things may come to those who wait, but only what is left by those that hustle.

I’m slowly coming to the realization that this regime will most likely do NOTHING in the off-season because they want to keep costs down.
No new assistant coaches hired.
No splash in free agency.
No tweaking the scouting department to ensure we maximize on the draft picks we’re selecting.
It’s like we went 3-13, there should be some change SOMEWHERE.
The complacency with this ownership group is soooo deflating.

Setting Raheem up to fail…so that he can be let go during the lockout year and no coach will be on staff.

I know it sounds stupid, but it actually makes a little sense. The scouting department has had an entire year to prep for the draft. If they overhauled the department, they’d have almost zero prep time before the draft. I think that could actually turn out worse.

This is off topic, Joe, but it relates to the continuing chatter about the Glazers and their financial commitment to Manchester United.
The story concerns Team Glazer giving its soccer players prospectuses about investing in the bond sales being used to refinance the debt.

The good news is that the Scouting Department will be overhauled. If they are graded on the success of those players they were supporting, as they should be, there will definitely be some vacancies. While Dominik is at it, I hope the scouts are given some ultimatums on size, speed, IQ, and character. Please don’t waste time talking about the exceptions since there are exceptions to every rule. The exceptions are in the extreme minority.

All I know is that this team sounds like the Status Quo is good enough for them. Olson to stay on? WTF? Amateurs. Hey Joel- I will coach the team and get the same results for far less money than the current coaches.

And yes ! Dumbinick is a Tool.

Why would you make changes in a staff that has spent a year looking at kids to draft a few short weeks before the actual draft. My guess is the GM knows the importance of this draft and is spending a lot of his his time looking at tape. He is at the game this week and will be at the senior bowl next week to see first hand these guys. Asst coaches may change where needed but my guess is with more time to look around GM & HC will add talent to the staff
