Suh, Cowher And Why The Bucs Suck
December 22nd, 2009This morning on “The Blitz” heard exclusively on Sirius NFL Radio, a desperate Bucs fan called in to get some feedback on the state of the Bucs from co-hosts Adam Schein and Rich Gannon.
The Bucs fan admitted he was bummed out with the Bucs win Sunday as it likely was an NFL version of a kiss goodbye to Nebraska defensive tackle/manbeast Ndamukong Suh.
This prompted Schein to joke, “How do you win that game and screw up your draft?”
The Bucs fan asked Schein if he thought there was any way the Lambs, who unless they shock everyone and win their final two games, will draft offense and pass on Suh.
Schein was adamant in his theory.
“The first pick in this draft will be Suh. I don’t care who it is. It will be Suh. If not, somebody will get fired for it.”
The Bucs fan then asked if there was any way the Bucs would hire Bill Cowher as the Bucs head coach and keep Raheem the Dream as the Bucs defensive coordinator.
Rich Gannon, a Chucky acolyte, dodged the question but explained his version of why the Bucs suck.
“I just think there was too much change too soon,” Gannon said. “You start with [firing] Bruce Allen and you bring in Mark Dominik who may be three or four years away from being ready. Then you whack Jon Gruden and promote Raheem Morris who is 33 and has never been a coordinator. He is eight or 10 years away [from being ready].
“Then you hire Jeff Jagodzinski and fire him before the season. You hire Jim Bates and you fire him. Then you go through three starting quarterbacks and one is a rookie.
“It was too much change too soon. You have a young staff with young players with not a lot of direction and that is why you are 2-12.”

What Bucfan in thier right mind wouldn’t want Suh and Cowher next year?

But what person with any football knowlege would be dumb enough to think bill cowher would want to coach the bucs with the carolina job possibly being open (where his kids go to school) or think suh would fall to number 3 in the draft

I agree with Gannon as far as Dominik and Rah not being ready, but I think his time-line is a bit exaggerated. I think they both could’ve used another 2-3 years training before taking over there current positions. Curious to see the path the Glazers take after this season.

Gannon is on the mark, except for the timeline exaggerations as mentioned by FlBoy84.
It’s interesting that the two Justin’s who post on this site differ principally in capitalization–the above justin chooses not to capitalize his name, while I do.

I agree with Gannon, period. Radio did not come up through the system the way the rest of the coaches in the NFL came up. Nor is he a prodigy. He is simply and assistant defensive back coach that was handed the keys to the corvette and told to have fun. Same win Dominik. The Glazers simply cut costs this year and are trying to maximize profits for the huge debt of Manchester United. Sadly, They probably were ecstatic when the Bucs won Sunday because they don’t have to pay out the #1 draft money. It is yet to be seen how next year will be, but I for one am not investing my money in Manchester United by purchasing tickets to the Bucs when the Glazers don’t care whether or not the Bucs win or lose.

Dominik deserves some credit for the Gaines Adam trade … the big mistakes were the hires of the two coordinators and the schemes they brought to Tampa … I guess Dominik & Coach both deserve blame for that …

Dominik had a better offseason than Allen ever did here. Sure Dominik dropped the ball on the clayton contract (although it’s still easy to cut him without there being a cap next year), but every other decision was solid enough. Bruce Allen brought in guys like Charlie Garner for big money that kept us in cap hell til 2006, and then the only FA we had for 3 seasons was Jeff Faine.
No wonder the glazers were cheap, I wouldn’t want to give out millions of dollars so my GM could go out and sign a bunch of Tim Browns. Dominik is ready now.
Raheem on the other hand, I don’t know, but if and when he ever lands a next head coach job I think he’ll be good.
