Broken Foot Ends Stroughter’s Season

December 21st, 2009

Raheem The Dream announced today that his other prized 2009 draft pick, Sammie Stroughter, was placed on injured reserve with a broken foot.

His excellent rookie season is over with 31 catches and a kick return for a touchdown.

“I’m not really into the medical field thing,” Raheem The Dream said at his Monday news conference. “I’m sure we’ll have him back for some point for OTA days. …I don’t think it’s career threatening.”

Joe has stated this over and over this season: Stroughter was an absolute steal in the seventh round. Had he not been injured, Joe believes there was no valid excuse for keeping him out of the starting lineup.

As a kick returner, Stroughter nearly made people forget Peanut Smith.

The loss of Stroughter also is a big one for those who want the Bucs to play well in their final two games. With Maurice Stovall playing like Michael Clayton, Stroughter’s loss is a huge for Josh Freeman and the offense.

As much as anything else Stroughter gave our offense an edge or a swagger because he was so confident. He made plays and his energy was just so positive. We will miss him a lot on returns and in the passing game these next two games but hopefully he comes back healthy next year. If he is then he should be a major contributor on both next year.

    This sucks…….This REALLY sucks

Not so much because he gives us a better chance to win….CP couldn’t really care less if we win or lose our next two……but because he is one of the only reasons to watch the Bucs on Sunday…..

And I’ll say this….as clueless as Dominik and Rah have looked for most of this season, grabbing Stroughter in the 7th round, adding Winslow (maybe overpaid him but that’s a different issue), getting Geno Hayes on the field…..hell, I’m even believing what these guys said after the draft– that Freeman was the best QB on their board……..it’s given me a smidgen of confidence that with a little experience Dominik and Rah are gonna be alright

That’s if they’re smart enough to learn from their mistakes…..which is still to be determined

I’m disappointed for Sammie, but curious to see what Nunn can do if they activate him. In the limited reps Figurs received as a PR/KR, he seemed a bit timid. Just gives the team more opportunities to evaluate guys the last two games. Wish you a speedy recovery Sammie.
