If Bill Cowher Comes…
December 31st, 2009Clearly the Bucs will have a new look if, indeed, Bill Cowher becomes the next Bucs head coach.
Gone will be the Bucs 4-3 defensive front. In will be the zone blitzing of the 3-4.
No one short of possibly a Steelers employee is more plugged in with the team than longtime Steelers beat writer Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
In a recent chat on the paper’s site, Bouchette threw out a couple of names of Steelers coaches who may join Cowher should The Chin come to Tampa Bay.
screenwriter: Ed, Who within the Steelers organization might Bill Cowher hire as part of his new staff?
Ed Bouchette: I think you might look at some of the coaches who were here under Cowher previously, especially on defense, people such as Keith Butler, Ray Horton.
So Joe decided to do a bit of research on the two, from the Steelers official website. Seems Butler, the Steelers linebackers coach, has held the position since 2003. Few teams over the past decade have developed better linebackers than the Steelers.
Horton has been a defensive backs coach with the Steelers in some capacity the past six seasons. Previously, he was a defensive backs coach with the Redskins in the mid-1990s.

Why does everybody assume that he will change the defense his first year?Maybe, just maybe, he is smart enough to wait until he has the right players to fit the right system? Did you ever stop to think that Cowher is too smart to try and force a square peg into a round hole unlike some other coachs we all know!

He will change this defense. The whole reason to bring in Cowher this year is all the draft picks, If you are going to make a change this is the year. And its not as if this square peg is a top 5 defense.

“And its not as if this square peg is a top 5 defense.” No but, with a couple of pieces that square peg can be!

Seriously Joe, PLEASE stop with the Cowher articles. This has to be about 15 of them by now. He’s not coming, give it a rest.
