Three Reasons The Bucs Suck

November 6th, 2009

Arron Sears playing hide-and-seek with the Bucs did nothing to help the offensive line.

Joe’s a bit late in getting to this, but it’s still relevent.

Backwards Hat, aka cool cat Rick Brown of the Lakeland Ledger, typed a column in which he details three key reasons the Bucs are toying with a winless season.

Angelo Crowell’s injury:  The linebacker is just two years removed from leading the Buffalo Bills in tackles. When healthy, he is that playmaker the team needed at strongside linebacker. But he struggled through training camp with injuries then was placed on injured reserve with a torn bicepsinjury forcing the team to play two first-time starters at linebacker. The inexperience has shown.

Absence of Arron Sears and injury to Jeff Faine: Let’s not downplay these. The offensive line was considered one of the Buccaneers’ strengths entering the season. The team wanted to use this strength to power its running attack. But with Sears not reporting (unknown reason) and Faine getting injured in the first game, the running game stalled. Faine has returned from his triceps injury so we’ll see if the running game will as well.

Suspension of Tanard Jackson:  This really hurt the team for the first four games. Jackson has always been a steady presence in the secondary. A converted corner, he had the speed and skills to cover as well as the ability to make the sure tackle. Add the team learning a new defensive scheme and it was chaotic in the secondary the first four weeks of the season. Now, Jackson has an interceptions in the last two games and is providing the stability the unit sorely missed.

Three solid points by Brown, though Joe is not sure he would list Crowell as part of the reason the Bucs crumbled. He was damaged goods to begin with. To expect him to play at a high level with 100 percent health was wishful thinking.

Joe really wishes Brown would cut some more Bucs videos. It’s been a while Rick!

I know one reason is COACHING at all positions!

  2. Jolly Rodger Says:

All very valid reasons for the Bucs woes. However, the Glazers underspending every other team in the NFL is why there is such a lack of depth to make up for those loses.

  3. Ron Nado Says:

I would have to say lack of talent. We also have to keep in mind this team did’nt just get bad this year. Something happenned last year, we were 9-3 and then BAM! We slid badly and have’nt stopped yet.
I think alot of it had to do with us not having enough depth at our key positions. Our key players were getting old, that why they wore down at the end of the season. Look at the differance in Chicago for example, does that Defense look the same without Urlacher ? No it does’nt, and thats only one player!
We do have alot of positive things to look at with our team, we just need to hang in there! Go Bucs!
    P.S.
    We could use some leadership!
“Brooks would have been nice to still have around”

  4. Louie Says:

I’m sorry, those are not the 3 key reasons the Bucs suck. Half of those people (Faine and Jackson) are back playing and there has been little or no improvement.

    Here’s my top 3 reasons:

    1) Not spending money on players. Bates wasn’t given the players he needs to make his scheme work.
    2) Rookie head coach. An experienced head coach would have some wins by now.
    3) Chaos on offense resulting from Jagz firing just 10 days before the season.

1 reason the Bucs suck…. Coach Rah Rah.

  6. Anup Says:

I agree with Louie. Here are my 3 reasons:

    1) Raheem Morris
    2) Raheem Morris
    3) Raheem Morris

  7. oar Says:

Kiffin’s Tennessee departure was a huge added factor to the team’s defensive short comings in last years slide.

  8. Joe Says:

    Oar:

    Two things:

    1) I do not believe that Kiffin leaving had anything to do with the Bucs tanking the last month of the season. If anything, the players loved it. They wouldn’t quit on him. No one, I mean no one, blames a guy for wanting to work with his son. Additionally, all sorts of sources from Al Davis to Bruce Almighty to Chucky confirmed that the team knew Kiffin was leaving to work with his son (wherever he landed) before the season started.

    2) The defense showed cracks in games prior to the December collaspse, (0-16) Detroit and Chicago for example. When the Bucs got riddled with injuries in December, the house of cards collaspsed.

  9. oar Says:

Then, why did Sapp say Brooks called him about Kiffin’s leaving, right after they were offically told before the Carolina game? Saying he was wondering what they will do or what will happen. I find it hard to believe after 10years plus it would not affect the players, for whatever reason. I did not say it was the only reason, but a huge added factor to the others(injuries, lack of depth; who are now starters, lol).

  10. oar Says:

Please don’t tell me they’re professionals(not they way the majority of them act) and that shouldn’t effect them. I know it would be on my mind if my boss left. I would be wondering what direction the new one would want to go, or if I was still in the loop.
BTW Im not blaming Kiffin’s reason for leaving, just the fact that he did, period. Whatever the reason was!

  11. JC Cornell Says:

This season shows how good of a coach gruden really was.. All the shit he was getting was uncalled for because he was winning games without talent. I would love to see the Bucs try to lure Cowher to Tampa, trade down in next years draft to stockpile picks, and let him build a team. I just cant take Rah seriously as a head coach. Hopefully Freeman shows some bright spots Sunday, because if Dream and Dominik screwed that pick its going to be a long couple of years. Look around the league at all the good teams and you see they have a good qb that has strong leadership traits. I dont see the leadership with freeman, i know hes young but i still dont see him rallying his players before the game like brees does in new orleans. Its not a good sign when Faine is already saying he has to tell Freeman to speak up.

  12. Ron Nado Says:

Gruden was a good coach, yes. But you can only pick and choose free agents for so long before it starts to show in your depth. You some where down the line need to bulid your team thru the draft.
Example: Dungy’s team with a few of Grudens free agents for offense….
Not saying I’m right JC, only something to think about?
I agree hole heartedly with you on the whole leadership qualities of Freeman. He may one day shine in this dept. but I just can’t see him having those qualities like a Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco. Those guys look like they have been in the league for a few years already. Freeman still has that young kid look in his eyes. (deer in the head lights)
But who knows he may prove us all wrong and by years end we’ll all be saying we knew he would be a good qb and how they should have started him from the beginning! LOL

  13. Ron Nado Says:

    LOL, Hole (whole) bulid(Build)
sorry guys from Polk Co. here, don’t mind my spelling! LOL
Actually working and trying to type too fast…

Three more reasons ! !!! Radio Raheem 2 Raheem Morris 3 Raheem the D.M.F.E.T.B.A. Dumbest mother fucker ever to breathew air BEAT IT RAHEEM YOU FUCKING PUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. mark Says:

the glazers suck not the team. it is strange they have had some great players and some of the best coaching in the history of football but they can never really make it happen but a very few times over the course of their history. It is also strange that some of these coaching staff members and players have moved on to other teams and have a super bowl ring. Hmmm…that spells bad things about the glazers….greedy…incompetent fools in my opinion. If you want a team to fail miserably then let these losers buy them…it is all about the money baby…the players and coaches are “product” not talented players or coaches. glazers are sucking the very life blood out of this franchize..and dont even think these vampires have any sense of loyalty to fans or the players or the game.

  16. Michael T. Lemen Says:

Before I knew they were this bad………..I didn’t understand the reason for changing the uniforms ( unless for superstitious reasons, which is just stupid ) the uniforms were the best they’ve ever had. Lovie Smith ( Lovie should go back to gilligans island ) he never did that much good in Chicago. The QB they had looked to be on his way UP ^ , but we’ll never know now instead we have a name from the past, who if he had been good he may have stayed. Change just for the sake of change never works add some major injuries and we have a recipe for disaster. Nothing new just another awful Bucs team. Since I am a Bucs fan I’d LOVE to be wrong , but I doubt I could find more than ten people world wide who think I am. Oh well what can you do ? Hope & Pray, Hope & Pray !
