That Was Quick! Johnson Cut
October 27th, 2009Roughly eight hours after Marcus Johnson was busted for DUI when caught sleeping at the wheel of his new car just a matter of feet from One Buc Palace this morning, likely returning from his London trip, Marcus Johnson has been cut by the Bucs, so reports the great Mike Florio, the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com.
Since teams technically aren’t permitted to impose discipline on players who run afoul of the league’s substance-abuse policy, Johnson could file a grievance in an effort to recover the balance of his base salary of $620,000.
As Florio points out, if this were Donald Penn falling asleep after a couple of belts combined with jet lag, you think he’d be cut so quick? Joe doesn’t think Johnson has had time to sober up yet, much less get someone to bail him out.

As crappy as this team is and as cheap as the Glazers are, I’m wondering how much the Glazer boys charge the players for cocktails on Trans Atlantic charter flights? Guess the new game plan is to just drown your sorrows in booze.

If the Bucs cut him this soon, there must have been something else. Also, have you noticed that as of the reporting he was still in Orient Road and had not made bail yet? I would leave it to the famed Tampa Sports Media aka Buccaneer Press Office to do some investigating on what really happened, or not. Bottomline, the Glazers save 620k and get to make an example of sleeping beauty. Never give up the opportunity for a teachable moment.

I hope he sues them. If he was able to get drinks on the flight and they let him drive with jet lag. The Bucs could be held partially responsible.

Funny you mention Donald Penn, who has done as well as any lineman here the past few years, am I the only one that remembers Penn driving someone elses SUV into a neighbors house in his first week as a Buc?

LOL. That’s always a nice touch when someone rams their rig into a house!
