“Smiley” Clayton Responds Big Time
September 13th, 2009Many Bucs fans have nicknames for wide receiver Michael Clayton that are not printable, not even by Joe.
But Clayton may have earned himself a new nickname: “Smiley.”
“This is the only loss of my career that I can take with a smile on my face.”
Clayton showed why with a flashback game to his rookie year when he showed why he was a first round draft pick.
Clayton even had to leave the field for an IV as he was dehydrated. But he came back to lay the wood on Dallass defenders and makeĀ huge catches to keep the Bucs in the ballgame.
“It was hot, I was cramping, but I am good,” Clayton said. I’m 100 percent. My hamstring is fine.”
Clayton also lauded quarterback Bryon Leftwich.
“Leftwich is our leader. He kept our poise even at the end. We got what we wanted to do. That shows the character of our team. I love the character of this team. Everyone’s head is up.”

That’s great Mike. You had a good game and that’s all that matters. I guess you will celebrate tonight like you won the game.

I thought Clayton’s performance today was outstanding compared to his recent reputation for dropped passes. He took a hit mid-field and held on to the ball and sent the defensive player who hit him off to the sidelines after his bell stopped ringing quite so loud…I’m sure that player will be hearing that bell ringing well into mid week.

That was a fine effort out there Michael. Please take #90 aside and explain what playing with heart means.
