Kareem The Dream
August 10th, 2009He’s fast and furious, and he’s got the benefit of being from the head coach’s hometown and alma mater. Running back Kareem Huggins has had a leg up since being signed by the Bucs as an undrafted free agent out of Hofstra University.
Now Buccaneers.com even acknowledges it in a short feature about five young guys who are standing out in training camp.
Joe had a feeling Huggins was going to be special after interviewing his head coach at Hofstra in May.
Raheem the Dream talked about how he tries not to play favorites with Huggins.
The 5-9, 198-pound back has factored into the punt and kickoff return rotation and also shows promise as a cover man.
“Kareem Huggins has been a surprise since he’s been here,” said Morris, who also shares a hometown of Irvington, New Jersey with his 23-year-old back. “I’ve been trying to keep him quiet because I don’t want to show favoritism for the old Irvington guy. When you know something, you don’t want to force-feed it on anybody, and sometimes you downplay that guy.”
Joe’s thinking Huggins is destined for the practice squad, unless he can truly be an effective cover man or an injury opens up another spot.
