Is Luke McCown Being Showcased?

August 8th, 2009

Joe was either at One Buc Palace or a bagel joint that offers free WiFi all day today. So the only time Joe really got to hear the radio was when he was on the radio, interviewed by his good friend Justin Pawlowski of WDAE-AM 620.

After Joe was interviewed, Justin chatted with the well-tanned Bucs general manager Mark Dominik, who stated that Luke McCown will start the Bucs first preseason game against Tennessee next week.

Now anyone who has watched Bucs practices has noticed Byron Leftwich is starting to pull away from the pack in the race, that much is clear. Joe has stated it; Justin has stated it; eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune has stated it, among others.

Just this morning, Leftwich easily looked like the starter with his decisions and his accurate throws.

If anyone listened to Justin’s recent podcast on JoeBucsFan.com, he mentions the best case scenario with the Bucs is that Luke McCown is traded because Leftwich, being 30, really has no trade value. McCown may.

Joe wonders whether, to use a baseball expression, McCown is starting because the Bucs want to showcase him? Again, Joe has no evidence of this at all but the thought has crossed Joe’s mind.

Maybe Justin is on to something?

  1. The Buc Stops Here Says:

Joe, I don’t think it’s more of less of them wanting to showcase McCown. I think that Lefty offered to let McCown go game one so he can play his old team the Jags in the second preseason game. Kinda to put a “Look what you gave up” type of thhing. Should be interesting to watch.

Well Leftwich starting leaves me cold, I hope he can do it but the Bucs are his 4th team in 2 years. He was cut for Garrard, couldn’t beat out Joey Harrington in Atlanta, and when he did get the job in Atlanta lost it again to Harrington and signed with the Steelers only because Charlie Batch got injured. Made the most of his time with the Steelers, he has a super Bowl ring…but so does Rob Johns

No 3G for your computer huh, might be something worth investing in to help you bring more up to the minute coverage during training camp.

    Ben:

Joe isn’t totally sure what 3G is, but he thinks it’s a quicker version of internet access?

Joe was using a laptop and needed WiFi access (and grub and air conditioning). The bagel joint served all of Joe’s needs.

(If said bagel joint wants to cut Joe a check, he’ll be happy to reference said bagel joint by name. Numerous times actually.)
