Mark Dominik Is A Calculated Man
July 6th, 2009Say what you will about Bucs general manager Mark Dominik, but in his short tenure as the Bucs football head honcho, he’s got a pair.
Trading up for — at best — a suspect first round pick, trading high and then signing high for an oft-injured yet gifted tight end and then cutting loose arguably the most beloved of all Bucs, Dominik isn’t afraid to pull the trigger.
Tom Balog of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune goes so far as to call Dominik “calculated.”
In the story, former Bucs general manager and current Chicago Bears front man Jerry Angelo raved about Dominik. Of course he would, he hired Dominik to work for the Bucs.
“He did his homework. Nothing he did was knee-jerk,” said Angelo, who held the job as the Buccaneers’ primary talent evaluator from 1987-2000. “He was a great listener and he was around a lot of good people _ personnel people, coaches. He saw what the doldrums looked like. He watched something be built and he was part of it.
“That’s probably as good a training ground as you can have. Then, knowing the culture of the Buccaneers, that’s a huge component to ensure his and the team’s success,” Angelo said.
Angelo went on to say that Dominik was responsible for finding, scouting and then talking Angelo into signing linebacker Shelton Quarles.
The one thing Joe likes about Dominik is he doesn’t seem content with the norm. He’s ready to rock the boat if needed. Joe just wishes Dominik wasn’t so bold as to unload Brooks.
Joe better not write much more. He doesn’t want to be caught in Dominik’s glare again.

Come on and give this poor Derrick Brooks stuff a rest, Hey i Love him just like all the rest of Buccaneer Nation does but the sandman visits us all. Would i have liked another year for Brooks to Retire as a Buccaneer, that all depends on if he plays as well as the rest of the guys next to him. Yes he has a vast amount of experience to draw from. But that wont help his speed, stamina or am i missing something here. Yes Derrick Brooks is the best LB we have EVER had Period. Until someone comes along and plays better than he did the entire length of his career. The GM and Head Coach just did what was needed you cant get back YOUTH no one can not even the best LB we have ever had. I want to remember Derrick Brooks as the player i admire and respect not be the player who stayed around a year or two to long. It was a tough call to make and i think our new Gm Mr. Dominik and Head coach Mr. Morris made a tough call but at the end of the day i think it was needed as i don’t believe Derrick Brooks will ever Quit he never has even when we saw him limping around the field. Just the way i see it out here in Arizona.
Hey Joe, wanted to say great website, and keep up the GREAT work. if your ever out this way Holler out and I’ll buy the first round at Barrio Brewery.
