Opportunity Simmering For Brooks
May 9th, 2009Joe couldn’t help but think of Derrick Brooks upon reading about the New Orleans Saints fourth round pick in 2009, linebacker Stanley Arnoux, who ruptured his Achilles tendon on Friday.
The Saints are now especially thin at linebacker, and New Orleans was the one destination that Pat “Vacation Man” Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, was touting as a good fit for Brooks months ago.
It sure seems that Brooks and New Orleans are a great match now. And Joe really wants to see Brooks play football in 2009. There’s still game left in that Hall of Fame body.
Back in January (long before the Bucs cut Brooks) the Saints signed LB Dan Morgan, who was out of football last year after multiple injuries and several concussions. The dude also played a whopping combined total of four games in 2006 and 2007.
Morgan is expected to fill a role at weak side linebacker on the Saints’ largely awful defense.
Nobody’s going to convince Joe that Morgan is anywhere near the league of Derrick Brooks. It’s time for the Saints to get on the phone to No. 55.

I hope that Mr. Brooks, whatever his decision, will be okay. His legs are tired and he has slowed to a point that he has become part time player. I would break my heart to see him in any other uniform than those of the Bucs. I hope if he chooses to play, does not get injured. Derrick, take a deep breath, look back on a wonderful hall of fame career and retire. You have nothing left to prove.

I’ll be kind…….

Brooks is one of my heroes, but seeing him in Saints jersey would be like Favre in a Vikings jersey. I don’t know if I could take it. Brooks needs to play for the Pats or the Broncos or any team that is not in the NFC South.

Joe, hope you remember me love your site….. I seriously hope the Saints sign him and they crush the Bucs at least once just for a bit of revenge. Im a huge Bucs fan and wish them the best of luck in 09 but I dont see with a majority young team we will see playoffs. But I’ll rap up with saying I see your taking requests within reasonso please do me a favor… Post the best of Alstott. The best there ever was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Joe.

I love the Bucs dude no need to talk trash but Brooks was one of the best besides Alstott so just for him to get some revenge would be awesome. Dont really need your opinion on my opinion thanks though. All I’m saying is that the Bucs screwed Brooks so Brooks should get his shot at some revenge…….

Revenge I can see, but I hate the Saints with a passion. The Aints’ Defense needs much more than Brooks (at this point in time) can give them. Once again, the Aints will be at the bottom of the NFC South, followed by Carol-gina, the Fagcons will be 2’nd, and The 12-4 Bucs will win the division. How’s that for trash talkin?

Very nice, I’m glad to see someone thats see’s the revenge part of it. I didnt mean i hope the saints win because im a fan i just dont want to see Brooks out of a the league before hes ready to go… I like your style of trash talkin………

Nick…….Brooks was ready to go for 2 years. The man is a true first ballot hall of fame player. Why do you think he needs to play elsewhere? Revenge? The guy, although the best at his position, is done. If he plays, he will surely make a play or two. Doubtful he will play full time. Derrick Brooks has nothing left to prove TO ANYBODY. I wish he would retire.

Brooks can do what John Elway did and retire and be remembered as the face of the Bucs or he can do what Brett Farve did and play for another team and we know how that turned out.
Have class Derrick – you don’t need to prove anything, you won’t set any records with another season.
