One of the downfalls of Chucky with the Bucs is he collected quarterbacks like an old man living in Sun City collects stamps (only to be outdone by his pupil, Raheem the Dream).

But in an article with Len Pasquarelli of BSPN.com, Chucky claims that, despite what some may suggest, his juggling and berating of quarterbacks was nothing personal. In fact, he hinted that quarterbacks might be a bit too thin-skinned.

Coaches in the NFL, however, usually fret more about wins than bruised egos.

“It’s a part of the business of the game, not a personal thing, like some guys conclude,” said former Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden, who in 2007 traded for Denver veteran Jake Plummer to compete with Jeff Garcia and Brian Griese for the starting job. “In every walk of life, people get their feelings hurt, but [quarterbacks] shouldn’t react that way when the new guy shows up, even if it’s human nature. It’s all about the competition, and that’s going to make everybody better.”

Never mind that Plummer retired rather than report to the Bucs. Even though Garcia excelled in 2007, he did so cognizant of the fact Gruden might have preferred Plummer be his starter.

In short, Pasquarelli claims the Bucs’ braintrust owes a full explanation to Luke McCown why, at every turn for three months, he was the chosen one at quarterback, yet the Bucs still went out and signed Byron Leftwich and drafted bust-in-waiting Josh Freeman.

Not only does Joe agree, but Joe still wonders why Raheem the Dream is getting a pass on such a practice, whereas Chucky would have been crucified for pulling the same stunt?
