Leftwich Has Draft Gurus Freaked Out
April 17th, 2009Joe has stated many times before that he enjoys reading mock drafts. Hey, any football chatter is good chatter.
But some of these wannabe Scott Pioli’s are so desperate to defend their picks, no matter how bizarre they are, they will go to extreme surreal lengths to justify their mock drafts, even when they are flat out wrong.
Mel Kiper and Mike Lombardi spring to mind.
Both have been jocking NFL bust-in-waiting Josh Freeman to be picked up by the Bucs overlooking all evidence to the contrary, most important that Freeman is wildly overrated.
But don’t let common sense get in the way of your picks boys.
Kiper, who seems to be the object of lust by some local scribes, is so upset that the Bucs signed quarterback Byron Leftwich that he is saying the Bucs now need to trade their first round pick.
God forbid some front office type screw up Kiper’s mock draft.
But Lombardi takes the cake for insane logic. He is so freaked out by the Leftwich signing that he has the unmitigated gall to suggest — apparently with a sober mind — that the Bucs will trade up to acquire Freeman.
Trade up!!! Really???
Freeman marks the start of a new era for Bucs football and has the tools to develop into a big-time NFL passer. But he’s raw and needs time to sit on the bench and learn behind a seasoned vet.
Can you imagine such a thing? This Freeman, a 2009 version of Akili Smith, is beyond a reach at No. 19. Just what narcotics is Lombardi inhaling to even comprehend the Bucs — or any team — would actually trade up to get Freeman???
If Raheem The Dream has that big of a boner over Freeman he could trade down to get him.
If Mark Dominik is that out of his mind to trade up to get Freeman, don’t be surprised if you read about Joe next Sunday morning amid the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrest log.

I’ll be on the phone to the PCSO the moment Dumink picks Freeman.
It won’t happen, but I totally agree about the insane logic some of these
“experts” use to justify their mucks, er mocks.
