The Detroit Lions need so much for their team to succeed that drafting Matthew Stafford with the No. 1 overall pick is actually silly.

They need to improve their woeful defense to get themselves some respect or it won’t matter what happens on offense.

I’m not a Daunte Culpepper fan anymore, but he gives them their best chance to save the state of Michigan (no pressure Daunte).  Stafford never put the Georgia Bulldogs on his back (they were the pre-season No. 1) for a win of significance (Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl?), then why does anyone think he could really help at the next level?

The Bucs are in a similar situation for a different reason.

Josh Freeman of Kansas State could not and did not raise the Wildcats to any kind of prominence and if he was a special player he would have, especially because of his “superman” physical gifts.

He may be a player, but he certainly won’t make th Bucs better next year and the Buccaneers owners need to get the mojo back in the luxury suites and among season ticket holders.

Let’s all hope we hear Roger Goodell say Saturday night, “With the 19th pick of the first round, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select–A BOOKEND DEFENSIVE END–who cares what his name is”!
