Florio Discusses Free Agency
February 15th, 2009Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com throws out some names to keep in mind when free agency signings begin in a short two weeks. Among the players Florio brought up were two that Bucs fans are talking quite a bit about: Albert Haynesworth and Antonio Bryant.

Of the two possible Buc FA discussed – how much would it take to franchise Bryant vs. a multi-year deal. If the Bucs are serious about going downfield they NEED Bryant and another downfield threat – hence TJ Houshmandezah from Cincy. The problem is that the Bucs can’t probably tie up that much $ in both Bryant & TJ.
Other possible FA to help Bryant would be Lance Moore.
With regard to Haynesworth my concern is tying up that much $ on a player when the Bucs have multiple needs. Maybe having Haynesworth and re-signing Jovan Haye is the answer to the porous Bucs middle BUT it still doesn’t address the DE. Does anyone really believe the Bucs are ONE player (Haynesworth) from regaining their old defensive prowess? Let’s get real. For what you would fork out to get Haynesworth I would rather spend that on drafting a DT (Peria Jerry), resigning Bryant and still having $ left over to address other areas of concern.
My biggest question is this: Multi-year deal with Bryant or franchise tag? What’s the best move for the Bucs.
PS – If the Bucs let Bryant get away then it proves that yes the Glazers are being “cheap” and we in Tampa are in for a long cruel season. JMHO

Mr. Lucky:
Very good point you made. If the Glazer Boys let Bryant escape, that’s proof they are in saving money mode.
