Based on input from more than half the Pro Football Hall of Fame selectors, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo should have a better chance of winning an Emmy in his new job with CBS television than he does getting a Gold Jacket.

For those just returning from interplanetary travel, the big sports news Tuesday was that, after making Romo available for workouts and discussions for all NFL teams Monday, the Cowboys released him. Almost simultaneously, CBS announced Romo will be their lead football analyst alongside Jim Nantz.

PHOENIX – In breakneck speed during two days of league meetings Monday and Tuesday, important business was conducted. That can’t be disputed.

However, several items were tabled, while some seem off the radar, left to negotiating between the NFL and NFLPA. Safety is said to be a major topic, but many of those coaches truly responsible for the product on the field are increasingly frustrated at the constraints put on them from roster size to offseason programs to practice rules.

PHOENIX — The Oakland Raiders are moving to Las Vegas.

NFL team owners voted 31-1 to approve the Raiders’ application to relocate to Las Vegas during the annual league meetings in Phoenix on Monday. The Miami Dolphins were reportedly the lone opposing team to vote against the move.

PHOENIX — If only the walls could talk inside the Arizona Biltmore, where NFL relocation has been front and center over the last three decades.

As the 2017 league meetings began Sunday with an opening address by commissioner Roger Goodell, owners were poised to vote Monday to approve the relocation of the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas, another desert city just under 300 miles away.

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace said it best recently when he commented on the perils of free agency in the NFL.

“Free agency is dangerous,” Pace said. “You’re stepping through land mines. And you’ve got to be careful you don’t step on the wrong one. There is a delicate balance between being aggressive and being decisive but responsible. I think you can always recover from the player you didn’t sign. You can’t recover from the player whom you signed at the wrong price. We’ve got to be conscious of that.”
