Wait a minute.
Lavonte David engaged in a quarterback discussion last night and didn’t reference Josh McCown or Mike Glennon?
A few weeks ago, David talked about McCown being an incredible leader in the locker room.
Last night, David joined Joe’s friend Chris Fischer, of WTSP-TV, Ch. 10, for some special TV time. Joe’s got a video cut below.
David calls Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston a “complete winner” and says he “has that fire to him.” He said Oregon gunslinger Marcus Mariota is a “complete playmaker” who “knows how to find players.”
As a guy who’s lined up across from a Dirk Koetter offense, David said he likes the way Koetter establishes the run and uses weapons.

LVD is thinking of the fact they he and his cohorts on defense will have more time to rest unless the offense turns to scoring in less than four plays.
How many times had McCown and company did a three and out or turnover during the year and the D have little rest on the sidelines?
This is a stat of significance.

There is no doubt that a better offense will help our defense…..imagine more games with a 2 or 3 touchdown lead…..opposition becomes more predictible….and more time of possession is better for our defense along with better field position.

What do players like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Tom Brady, etc. have in common?
They all sucked as rookies & took time to develop into the players they are now. However, each one of us would give anything to have or have had a quarterback of this level playing for the Buccaneers. So if it takes a year or two to develop Mariota who cares. You can’t win a Super Bowl every year nor do I want to win just one and done. I want us to build a team that last for years to come and compete for a spot in the Super Bowl every year! Mariota is a great character guy that is the complete package. He’s exciting to watch because he can make plays. Winston will be a bust or he will be busted, No Thanks! Draft Mariota!

David all those players you mentioned also have accuracy, touch, and could read defenses coming out of college. That’s something that Mariota does not have and Jameis does so thanks for helping make the point that we should draft Jameis.

Hey!! Dumb*** Bucs fans of Tampa and around the world! The Bucs will do a serious deep investigation on Jameis Winston. And if there report come out to be as serious as the young lady said it was, we won’t draft him.
But I understand the hatred for him if you’re not a Seninoles fan. And the Bay area is Gators fans. That hate is real. But its the other ignorant a** people that hate him because of what’s reported on the news. Or the “other thing” about him. I don’t understand why those people are even football fans.

I think we have enough leadership between the coaching staff and veteran players on the team to take a chance on a guy like Winston…A few years ago that was not the case…
He does have some baggage and he is a little rough around the edges but he has that never say die/at his best in crunch time/clutch gene that few QB’s have…I’m not to concerned with his increase in Int’s this season because it was obvious he was pressing trying to win games…the defense was gashed/burned all year and the 104th ranked rushing attack put Winston in situations were he felt he had to make plays to keep pace instead of letting the games come to him like it did in 2013…
There’s only 1 choice…Winston..

I don’t get where you guys got that David wants to draft a QB. Chris Fischer asked a specific question about the 2 college prospects, and nowhere did he ask about Josh McCown or Mike Glennon? Had Chris asked David, I’m sure David would have had some good things to say about them both.

Draft the best QB. We all know it’s Winston! Proven pocket passer,Leader. Mariota hasn’t shown he can be a pocket passer. Simple.

trade the number 1# pick.
rebuild the 0-line with free agents and draft picks.
keep mike glennon as starting QB.
use mccown as a backup (with a serious paycut) QB.

George, I kinda like that idea, honestly. I haven’t completely given up on Glennon.
You guys will say I’m nuts, but looking in the eyes of both QB prospects, there’s something unsettling about Winston. I can’t put a finger on it, but there’s a look of arrogance, of immaturity, I’m not comfortable with. Can he play? Hell yes he can, no question. I just can’t describe it…

P. Manning: 33 TDs, 33 INTs
Luck: 26 TDs, 19 INTs
Rodgers: 32 TDs, 13 INTs (But this was his 4th year, 1st as starter)
Griffin: 26 TDs, 9 INTs
Vick: 18 TDs, 10 INTs
Wilson: 32 TDs, 12 INTs ( or 30 TDs, 11 INTs: if you count the playoffs)
Romo: 42 TDs , 26 INTs (But this was also his 4th year, 1st as starter)
A certain backup QB on a terrible team: 29 TDs, 15 INTs (18.5 games),
playing the toughest schedule in the NFL his rookie year, with FIVE games against the top four defenses that year, and with limited first team reps until he was the starter, and with Tim Wright and Tiquan Underwood and Bobby Rainey etc. as starters on the offense etc. etc.

Now please tell me in what category is Glennon an above average qb. Accuracy, arm strength, pocket awareness, ability to escape the pocket, ability to extend play, speed, agility, reading defenses, toughness, passion, leadership.
Let me know which of those things Glennon is better than the top 15 qbs in his league.

Now we’re having a discussion! So you acknowledged that Glennon had a lot of passing TDs for only 18.5 games of experience in the NFL. More than most in fact, given the same level of inexperience.
So, I will also acknowledge that MG 8 may not be in the top 15 at this point in his career in ANY of those categories. Now, I have a similar question for you.
Out of all of those categories you mentioned, can you name ONE which is more important than throwing TD passes?
Is it unreasonable to expect that with more experience and a better team/offensive philosophy, that he might do even better? ( Sorry that’s two questions)

Winston is terrible under pressure. He played behind an all pro OL for 2 years most of his lineman will be drafted. 17 INT is not a statistical outlier. There is a reason for that and its not tipped passes FSU honks. If we end up with him behind this OL we are n deep shit. He will rarely have a clean pocket and time to read coverage. Mariotta would be the better fit for this team by a long shot. Russell Wilson is doing just fine and mariotta has a very similar skill set.

Tickrdr, just stop. You’re not convincing anyone that Glennon will ever be considered a good qb. Or that we should continue with glennon as our starting QB. Putting up a few stats in garbage time losses is not an indicator of being a great qb. If you want to pinpoint a stat that tells you if your qb is potential good, look at his third and fourth down conversion rates. The ability to extend drives on third down is one of the biggest factors to winning a game. It’s why analysists always talk about third downs. Glennon is one of the worst third down QBs in the league. Please do not bring up glennon’s TD stats. If he can’t win, then I can give 2 turds if he can throw a TD in the third quarter after we are already down 21-0, against a safe zone defense. There’s no doubt that glennon has some ability, and he seems to be a smart hard working dude, but he just doesn’t have that “it” factor. He doesn’t have good accuracy, and he doesn’t take any risks. Good or bad you need a qb to make calculated risks. You see Peyton manning, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, etc throwing at wrs that are covered. But a great throw will be any defense. Glennon doesn’t have the balls to make a throw into coverage, and if he doesn’t trust himself then why should I trust him to be our qb?

Idk if I answered your questions… Mostly because picking a stat over an attribute is pretty ridiculous. But to keep the conversation going….
I feel like more important than how many touchdowns you made is the amount of games you helped your team win. And Glennon is in the bottom of that category.
As for question #2. With more experience and a better offense and a better o line and better wrs and a better rb, yes Glennon probably could be better. But any qb would be better surrounded by all pros and the best offensive scheme. I want a qb that makes the guys around him better, not needing other guys to make the qb better.
