Report: Bucs Looking Trade Up To No. 2
May 6th, 2014This evening, well connected Mike Florio, of ProFootballTalk.com and NBC Sports, is sharing word he’s hearing around the league that the Bucs are looking to trade up to snatch the Rams’ No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Here’s the link: Perhaps Florio is talking to the same people Peter King is?
Joe highly doubts the Bucs would be trading up to satisfy fans afflicted with the Sammy Watkins Fetish. There are too many quality receivers in this draft to be seduced so passionately by Watkins. Trading up, in Joe’s opinion, means only one thing.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:27 pm
I would be really pissed if that happens. We need lots of players. To move up to the #1 slot would take a lot of ammunition.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:27 pm
I meant #2 slot
May 6th, 2014 at 7:28 pm
Smokescreen to bait others to trade up.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:29 pm
Ok, this is freaking fascinating. Regardless what Joe thinks, or what MGMers think, if the Bucs trade up to #2, who will they pick? Probably not Sammy, since the draft is loaded with WRs, that would not be a smart move. But Mack? Manziel (please God)?, Maybe Clowney? Bortles (I hope not)? Interesting debate material.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:29 pm
So the Bucs still have a ton of holes, and are going to sacrifice 3-4 premium picks? Les Snead is executive of the millenium if he turns RGIII into 5 or more first round picks.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:31 pm
You want him? Go get him. Be done with it. If true, good move. Perhaps Mack is their target. Either way, go get your franchise player.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:31 pm
I hope this is true. I’m all for it. Manziel a Buc? Yes!
May 6th, 2014 at 7:32 pm
Pulling for you Joe.
F the haters. Manziel is a damn good football player than what we have. If Tedford is worth a crap, he can put together a good offense and RayJay will be rockin!
May 6th, 2014 at 7:35 pm
Pls don’t. Put the phone down Lovie and back away from the table.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:37 pm
MOve up. Draft Johnny. Trade Glennon for a third. Draft Aaron Murray in the third, and really solidify this position for the future. Get a good year out of McCown and trade him for a fourth to some needy contender.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:40 pm
This just in….every team is looking to trade up and down and draft every player available.
I cannot wait until all this speculation is over and the Bucs make their pick!
May 6th, 2014 at 7:40 pm
This is smoke from the Rams to draw the Browns out for a trade.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:40 pm
If they trade up who cares if it’s a deep draft at WR we won’t have any picks to get one. Hope it is a deep WR & OL undrafted free agent market.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:41 pm
Boy I hope not. With Cleveland passing on him, he’ll be there at 7. I wouldn’t take him at 7 either but at least we aren’t giving up picks to move to 2nd
May 6th, 2014 at 7:41 pm
Trading up doesn’t mesh with the “value” L&L covet.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:41 pm
smelling more like a smokescreen every minute.
if they did it we would be pulling and ATL or WASH type move….how’s that worked out?
Julio Jones was a key cog in Atlanta getting 10 yards from the Super Bowl.–Joe
May 6th, 2014 at 7:43 pm
Yawn. Smokescreen. All day. We don’t have the ammo to trade up plus if we do, I’d put money on it being clowney and his lazy work ethic or Sammy Watkins, to fill a high offensive need that we have for this season. Too bad so sad for those fans afflicted with the Johnny manziel fetish. Nah…. Good job at Louis at driving up your price for Oakland or another adjacent drafting team.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:45 pm
I hope this is true. No matter who the Bucs pick at 2 it will be a way better player than someone they get at 7.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:46 pm
“Johnny I just slipped my extra room card to you”
May 6th, 2014 at 7:49 pm
If they have decided that Manziel is the best QB to run this Tedford offense then it is worth the price to move up. Bring Manziel to Tampa!
May 6th, 2014 at 7:51 pm
Hypothetical situation
-Trade up for the rams top pick and second first rounder.
Give away This years first, next years first and2016 2nd and Glennon (maybe Martin)
Use the #13 to trade back with San Fran for example and pick up their first, and 2 2nd rounders.
I realize it is very draft day the movie but it would give us 2 firsts,3 2nds and a third.
For a team that wants to win now it gives us top notch talent(now) and the assumption is that if we win the firsts we give away would be low first rounders and value wise it would work.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:51 pm
YES, let it be so! Go get em Lovie!
May 6th, 2014 at 7:51 pm
What will all the Manziel haters have to say if Lovie makes Johnny Football our 1st round pick? I wonder. I guess all that talk about having faith in Lovie goes out the window. You all better get on the bandwagon, because Johnny may very well be coming to town. And really, if Manziel becomes a superstar and proves a lot of you guys that are down on him wrong, would that really be so horrible…? If Johnny ends up our QB, I’ll be rooting for him.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:52 pm
FYI yesterday there was a report that Manziel won’t get past the Browns at 4. Today there is a report they won’t draft him at 4. It’s a bunch of lies and BS from March to (ugh) May now, but the last 72 hours before the draft are ridiculous.
May 6th, 2014 at 7:54 pm
Clowney!

More smoke. Thursday can’t come soon enough.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:04 pm
This draft industrial complex is becoming as irritable as the mock variety.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:05 pm
People keep saying not to draft Sammy Watkins early because the draft is full of good receivers. If that’s the case, the why not get the one that is head and shoulders above the rest? If everybody on the road is driving a Camaro, I want to be driving a Ferrari
May 6th, 2014 at 8:09 pm
Smoke and mirrors.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:09 pm
One Buc is putting out so much smoke these days you’d think Florida legalized pot.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:11 pm
Absolutely Fckn Stupid to trade up to 2 for such a Huge Gamble as JF.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:12 pm
In Fact I would put that right up there with trading Steve Young for Vinny
May 6th, 2014 at 8:15 pm
Won’t happen for Johnny, McCown wasn’t brought in to sit and any team that drafts Manziel will have instant fan pressure to play him. QB controversy hasn’t been Lovie’s style
May 6th, 2014 at 8:15 pm
” Julio Jones was a key cog in Atlanta getting 10 yrds from the SB” – Joe
Yeah way to ignore the fact that he is also the key cog in Atlanta being depleted at numerous other positions.

Correction/Addition – Julio is also the reason they have no OLine (hence Trueblood) or defensive depth!
May 6th, 2014 at 8:19 pm
Just read that Bucs shopping Glennon for a 2nd. I don’t want him gone but as I said when they were about to bring in McCown, a 2nd Rounder would be my value (not a 4th).
Would make it more likely to go after their #1 QB choice
May 6th, 2014 at 8:22 pm
Welcome to the JMMM, the Johnny Manziel madness mob, Plenty of barnstorming for this QB has got many fans shifting opinions from opposing to now favoring this move, damn the consequences. Hell, let’s trade away all of our picks for years to get this guy. If Glennon goes to the Rams, that team is already solid and rising. Glennon would be better off as a backup there.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:23 pm
Hot Thai women are back! And no Pop Ups!
May 6th, 2014 at 8:23 pm
Vic…….Did you bump you head or are you smoking crack. Move up to two for JF and then draft Murray in the Third???????? Solidify our Future”?????????///
Jeesh how the FCK can we spend two draft picks on QBs this yr when we just gave McCown 5 mil a Yr and need so much more than QB???????????
May 6th, 2014 at 8:28 pm
As far as Manziel haters, I have’nt read much of that here. Now Glennon haters, those are a dime a dozen in these parts.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:30 pm
Go for it Lovie.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:44 pm
Rams will probably receive McCown as part of the trade. Glennon will stay with Bucs. Here’s the kicker:
Bridgewater is coming to Tampa…
May 6th, 2014 at 8:47 pm
Texans will take mack and we will take clowny
May 6th, 2014 at 8:50 pm
QB is the only position that equates to winning the lottery…If you hit your team is set for 10yrs…Rams won’t trade till they see what Houston does…If L&L feel like he’s their guy…I’m on board
May 6th, 2014 at 8:52 pm
People in NFL circles know the Texans are taking Mack #1. Lovie is clamoring to move up to #2 and get Clowney. Mark my words.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:55 pm
Would not be my favorite move. I like moving back, but it would guarantee we could have either clowney, mack or Watkins. If lovie would give up a 2nd for gaines Adams or two 3rds for Marshall
I could see him go in hard after a potential franchise player.
May 6th, 2014 at 8:57 pm
I would take Clowney all day. I don’t buy into Johnny Footbal, but would support him if that is who they choose. Go to #2 they get one of them
May 6th, 2014 at 8:58 pm
Def wouldnt be for JF,,,HAHAHAHAHA! I doubt its even true, but if so, Im thinking Robinson or Mack!
May 6th, 2014 at 9:03 pm
Well it will be a fun day at the draft if that happens.
To move from pick 7 to pick 2 what would it take according to the draft manual?
Pick 2 is worth 2,600 point
Pick 7 is worth 1500 point our 2nd (510) our 3rd (235) no 4th our 5th (38.5) and no 6th and 7th 11.8
The Bucs total draft is worth 2295.3, add Mike Glennon or another 3rd, you get 2530.3.
We would be trading our future .
NOT HAPPENING. Johny Manziel might be there in the second round anyways.
May 6th, 2014 at 9:10 pm
No way Lovie & Light put it all on the line to trade up…..it would be a huge gamble & its just not in their nature & not necessary.
This is total BS.
May 6th, 2014 at 9:18 pm
LAY IT DOWN Mathius!!!!
Stick with 7 or trade back for Donald then get Moncrief in the 2nd.
May 6th, 2014 at 9:18 pm
Will be having sweet dreams tonight. Manziel equals Superbowl bound. Haha, belive it Johnny haters
May 6th, 2014 at 9:20 pm
Joe Im flattered that you finally responded to a comment from me. Maybe “ignore” was too strong for Joe. I consider telling only half the story ignoring the other half. I have many Atl fans and while they Love JJ they also realize how badly he set the team back. I can link you articles if you like.

May 6th, 2014 at 9:34 pm
I hope the NFL moves the draft back to April next season so we don’t have to endure the madness so long ever again. I am all mocked out. So much speculation and the fact is that not even the Bucs know who they are going to end up with.
May 6th, 2014 at 9:38 pm

May 6th, 2014 at 9:50 pm

May 6th, 2014 at 9:52 pm
Mike Glennon is better than anyone HOU or STL currently has at quarterback; don’t be surprised if he’s part of the deal.
May 6th, 2014 at 9:53 pm
You guys just can’t be this dumb. No Way in Hell Bucs fans this stupid. They say that about (some)Buc fans. Lacking football I.Q. NO WAY THE BUCS AND A DEFENSIVE COACH WOULD TRADE UP FOR A RISKY PLAYER LIKE JOHNNY MANZIEL WHEN THEY COULD DRAFT CLOWNEY OR MACK. Especially after a defensive team just won a SB. The earliest the Bucs will draft a QB, is if they trade down. And I truly believe they have Carr as there top rated QB on there draft board. Ever team have the QB’s rated differently on there draft board.
To all Johnny Nutt Tuggers. You have another 2 days to continue your wet dream. Can’t wait til it’s over with. And let the crying begin!
May 6th, 2014 at 10:08 pm

what if we trade Glennon and get a quarterback hi in the draft.and it turns out to be a Steve Young Vinny Testaverde all over again.what if Glennon turnes out to be the next Joe Montana Tom Brady type.and whoever we draft is a bust.I hope not I want Johnny or Blake.I just don’t want to get rid of Glennon.this happen once don’t let it happen again.
May 6th, 2014 at 10:34 pm
what if we get rid of Glennon, and it turns out to be a Vinny and steve young crap again.who remembers what I’m talking about.
May 6th, 2014 at 10:34 pm
@Joe…after the Browns take Manziel. Will it really be over? Will it FINALLY be over? If Manziel is not drafted by the Bucs, do I still have to look at Manziel pics anymore on JBF? 2 more days and it’s over, right?
It’s been a looooooooooooooooooooong wait for this draft to get here. Although Joe has kept us occupied while waiting. When I hear the words such and such select Johnny Manziel QB out of Texas A&M, I can then breathe a sigh of relief right? Because the Manziel articles will stop, right?
If the Bucs take him. I have to support him and them. Then again, if some of you thought Joe’s articles of love for Freeman we’re bad, you’re in for a lot of trouble if they draft Manziel. Sad to say it, but that might actually finally drive me away from JBF. The day in and day out articles on Manziel would continue, only now it would intensify and become unbearable.
Yes Joe unbearable.
May 6th, 2014 at 10:42 pm
Dont do it unless we can pull of sumthing like draft day movie……
May 6th, 2014 at 10:44 pm
@Patrick – solid point. If it’s going to happen, I wouldn’t mind seeing Glennon being used to mitigate the blow of the trade
May 6th, 2014 at 10:45 pm
Joe is there any way you can add a breathalyzer to your web site that must be passed before fans can post comments?
May 6th, 2014 at 10:49 pm
Okay just heard a rumor bucs trade doug martin and swap picks with the rams
May 6th, 2014 at 10:52 pm
Hope this happens we have never had a player like him with this much hype out of college. The camera crews would be everywhere nfl network and bspn would be showing him in those nice new uniforms 10 times a day. Kids will by his jersey and the bucs will be revelant again
May 6th, 2014 at 10:54 pm
Choking on all the smoky BS
May 6th, 2014 at 10:59 pm
Joe. I think we are getting off on the wrong foot. I enjoy your articles and tune in every day. I usually dont comment. I believe your JF love has soured most of us true Bucs fans a bit but I still tune in. Im sorry if my sardonic nature gets people riled sometimes. JJ was a Huge reach for Atl which really only panned out because they were so Right about him being an Elite WR. I dont think a jump to 2 is good for the Bucs in ANY way. But Im just an old Carpenter that went to the first 20 yrs of Bucs home games without missing a game. Dont think I’m a hater

Rams aren’t taking that lowball offer. They got 3 firsts and a second for RGIII. They’ll expect similar again. The Rams don’t have to trade, they want to but only for the right price. A running back in a league with their value declining to move back 5 spots? Not good enough.
May 6th, 2014 at 11:16 pm
“…you must be a real fun guy at parties…”
Joe, The Mob does not go to parties. They call the cops for neighbors leaving mattresses in the front yard. The Mob is mad bc they never get invited to the party
May 6th, 2014 at 11:19 pm
By that logic, the Bucs should never:
* draft a CB again because Myron Lewis sucked.
* draft another defensive end again because Gaines Adams and Da’Quan Bowers and Adrian Clayborn and sackless Kyle Moore stunk up the joint.
* draft another offensive tackle because Kenyatta Walker was a walking flag.
If a general manager is scared to make a move, you may as well just trade all your draft picks away and go all George Allen and get over-the-hill veterans that nobody else wants.
May 6th, 2014 at 11:20 pm
Adds up.
May 6th, 2014 at 11:37 pm
If we trade up to #2, the pick is Manziel. If the Texans for some stupid reason pass on Clowney, I have to admit, that would have to be tempting. That said, I stick to Johnny. He’s by far the best Qb of this class. He has the “it” factor that the others don’t possess. Most of the teams out there know this. In the lying season, you can believe 10% of what you hear or read. If we dont jump to #2 then we will not have a shot at Johnny. No way he gets by Browns and Raiders. If we dont move up, we would be moving on from Johnny. The Bucs moving to #2 is one of the few things I believe. If the Bucs were able to finagle a 3rd for Glennon, I dont know if it would take more than a 3rd rd pick plus our first round pick to get up the 5 spots.
May 6th, 2014 at 11:41 pm
Thinking of how heavily the Joes would drop Mancrush bombs on this site every day if he was actually drafted by the Bucs is a disturbing thought lol. I would definitely visit less often, but probably still check back at least on gamedays and such.
Of course I’d want Mancrush to succeed if his offense is the Bucs offense, though that doesn’t mean I expect it, especially behind the Bucs terribly thin and practically guard-less O-line which probably will not improve much if the Bucs have to use picks to trade up to 2nd.
Even if I were a Mancrusher I’d probably still find the Joes hard-on for Johnny a bit too much. But whatever it’s their site.
May 6th, 2014 at 11:42 pm

That wouldn’t be much fun then. 🙂

Here’s a good question: what if we traded up to #2 and Clowney was still up for grabs? Is it Johnny or Jadaveon (assuming that HOU passes up on Johnny too)?
May 7th, 2014 at 12:51 am
@Harry…what Mob?
May 7th, 2014 at 1:04 am

They both made sense.

If Lovey can’t get over a strip pole and a mattress in the front yard how will he ever tolerate the girls in the motel room on Saturday nights? I would sure love to have the chance of making some substantial wagers with you Johnny Man Child worshipers. All that said they would be glad for Thursday night to get here has my agreement. For what it’s worth, Channel 8 TV said Florio said it was going to be Clowney. (11:00 pm News.) At least that’s what my ears heard. I know Florio was reported at (9:56pm PFT) it was Manziel. Who can you believe? Reminds me of two guys talking and one guy telling the other that everyone else besides them were crazy and sometimes he had doubts about the other guy. QUESTION? Who will everyone on here say is crazy Thursday night? This is certainly a heated debate.
May 7th, 2014 at 1:39 am
I really want the bucs to draft Manziel but I don’t think we should be willing to give up all that much to move up and grab Johnny or any other player…..especially if the bucs are not planning on drafting a QB. This draft is very deep. If anything I would like to trade down. But with all that said I do hope we find our franchise QB!
May 7th, 2014 at 2:31 am
Credibility? Haha. Looking forward to see how the new regime attacks the draft.
May 7th, 2014 at 2:55 am
The hard on for Johnny has got to be unbearable huh?
May 7th, 2014 at 4:02 am
Even this late in the week, you can’t believe anything you hear/read…but I would think the #2 position gets Lovie whatever he needs.
If The Texans choose Johnny Football, then a superb edge rusher is available – if however the Texans select the edge rusher – Lovie gets “The Ted” his QB for which he can fashion his offense around!
I believe the Bucs are desperately negotiating for this move…just don’t know if they have decided on WHO they will select if they make the deal for the #2 overall!?
May 7th, 2014 at 5:43 am
Mack! Mack! Mack!
Robinson! Robinson! Robinson!
Watkins! Watkins! Watkins!
May 7th, 2014 at 5:56 am
In my humble opinion this is a smokescreen. Bucs don’t have enough draft power to move up to 2 (draft point chart.) unless you are willing to part with future first and second rounders it is virtually impossible. You are not going to get a 2nd rounder for Glennon. If he was perceived as that good we would be fools for trading him. Finally the last time I checked Lovie Smith was the coach, not Mike Ditka.
May 7th, 2014 at 6:50 am
Not happening! L&L aren’t going backwards.
May 7th, 2014 at 6:55 am
After seeing this hogwash I’m putting the phone down until Friday so I can see what Joe says about whatever happens on Thursday.
May 7th, 2014 at 7:18 am
I love how some of you guys still can’t accept that Joe may just get his wish. If you don’t like Manziel, that’s fine, it’s your right. But he may ultimately be your QB of the future in a matter of hours… I’ll support whomever we pick, even if I’m not 100% sold on the guy. Johnny hasn’t played a down in the league and some of you are already writing him off. Bucs fans have run a number of players out of town, but I won’t. I’m willing to give JF; a proven college talent/winner that may just turn into the star at QB that been lacking for so long; a shot. Maybe you should too; you might not have a choice.
May 7th, 2014 at 9:00 am
I’m good with the fact we may draft a QB even though I dont agree with it, but if we must Manziel is the most excting QB in the draft so I’m ok with this. Just please not Carr at #7

I wonder if any “expert” catching wind of Rams/Bucs talks considered the Rams looking at trading their 13th pick up to the Bucs #7 with the Bucs gaining the Rams 2nd round selection? The Rams would get both a top DL & OL prospect with two picks in the top 7. The Bucs would have options at sliding QB, WR or OL at 13 and have two 2nd round picks.
Draft chart has it 1500 (Bucs) – 1610 (Rams) in value.
May 7th, 2014 at 11:38 am
No way this move happens Joe. To draft a QB in the first rd and not to mention move up in a draft where you’re very limited in picks to get him, you had be ready to bet the farm, family and your job that he is your franchise guy for the next 10+ years. You must be positive he can’t fail! I know youre enamored by him, but he is no Luck. If they pick him, and u believe in him that much, then put your job here on the line just as Lovie would be doing.
Kidding of course but I’m sure your heart dropped

I would much rather pass on a QB this year and get Jameis next year. I think Jameis is the best prospect to come out of college since Luck. The kid has the arm/accuracy/scrambling ability. Also, he has the resolve he showed in the championship game to just never quit. We know he doesn’t get rattled and will do what it takes to win. Trading up for a qb this year when we have McCown thru this year just doesn’t make sense. If you are worried about having a veteran there to lead young Jameis, then re-sign McCown if he does well this year or find another journeyman veteran. I seriously think Joe needs to give up on this Johnny kick. It is just pure blind man love obsession at this point.
