“I’d Enjoy Being Back”

Wants a second contract

The 2017 Bucs quarterback with a winning record as a starter says he wants to new contract to play in Tampa.

That’s right, Ryan Fitzpatrick likes it here. He respects Dirk Koetter, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, and he wants another year, so he said yesterday.

Fitzpatrick, who started three games and beat the Jets and Dolphins, feels like this is the place for him at 35 years old.

“At this point in my career, I’m not going to be given or gifted a chance to start anywhere probably,” Fitzpatrick said. “You know, there’s a lot of things that weigh into it now for me now that maybe didn’t years ago, just in terms of family and different situations. I enjoyed the year I’ve had here and even just the Tampa area in general. But this team, I think Jameis did a good job this year and you can see the improvement in his game. I’d enjoy being back. I really enjoyed my role this year, but you never know. We’ll see what happens.”

Joe would bring Fitzpatrick back if Joe were Koetter and general manager Jason Licht. Heck, without Fitzpatrick, there’s a good chance the Bucs would have imploded under a massive losing streak and Team Glazer would have cleaned house.

Fitzpatrick played very well and steadied the team when it needed it most, following the Jameis/Mike Evans meltdown in New Orleans. He was a wise signing by Licht and Koetter last spring, and he’d be a wise one again.

I don’t understand the relationship with Ryan Griffin…..the Bucs have contracted him, kept him, used roster spots to keep him…..if he’s going to be our backup then let it be him…..we don’t need 3 qbs…..put one on the practice squad and be done with it.

  2. tmaxcon Says:

He doubled the win total of the FAILED glennon experiment in chicago…

  3. SCBucsFan Says:

TBBF, I agree. If he’s our backup then play the guy, if not then set him free.

  4. Terp12 Says:

Ryan Griffin was playing well in preseason and I would think, if healthy, he will be the back up next year.

” I think Jameis did a good job this year and you can see the improvement in his game” – Ryan Fitzpatrick

Highlighted just in case anybody missed it and/or didn’t think it was true.

Jameis DID make some improvements in his game this year. The injury set him back a bit – but overall, Winston improved in a # of ways and that’s not just via eyeballs – the development showed in his stats as well. More yards per pass, more yards per game, interceptions down and overall QB Rating up.

Fitz was a good signing and also played his way into a raise.

Let’s lock him up for 2 years. $9.5M for the 2 years with half that guaranteed in 2018

Guys, this Ryan Griffin fascination is unhealthy! The Bucs would not have signed Fitzy if they had faith in Griffin. Why they retain a glorified clip-board holder is beyond me. Camp meat, perhaps?!
I’m definitely NOT opposed to re-signing “The Beard”!!! We may want to look for a younger back-up in the draft sometime in the near future though.

  7. doolnutts Says:

It isn’t all that unusual to have 3 qbs. And to be honest I think the bucs really thought they had a shot at playoffs. That being so I think I would rather have fits over Griffin if playoffs were on the line.

That being said we were no where near playoffs lolol

  8. tmaxcon Says:

    Playoooffffs

Never again will bucs make playoffs… glazersm clowns will see to that

  9. Mark Biggens Bachman Says:

tampaxcon is correct…lets be front runner fans!!!!!

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

I’d keep Fitz around. Hell, why not? they are keeping this sorry a.s coaching staff. So lets just add to the merryment of the new year!

  11. Jarod Lauderdale Says:

Dline , get rid of GMC , fat f- ck Baker , & keep McDonald & Spence & William & get a bunch of help there…linebackers = don’t touch em = they are good… Corners = if I see Ryan Smith play another down on d I might be obligated to pull a Tanya Harding & break his gull damn knee caps & put vg3 in slot & get some starters there ! Safeties keep Evans and get some help ! On the online I think d.Smith is not to bad and marpet but need alot of help everywhere else & please get rid of light weight Hawley and for Christ sakes that damn Eds…even his initial s sound like a disease

Tmaxi: the true definition of a troll. I feel sorry for your ex wife and kids that rarely talk to you.

  14. Dewey Selmon Says:

There is a groping investigation still. Fitz knows he will get some snaps next year.

  15. Pa Privateer Says:

    Hell Yeah Keep Fitz!

Exactly the backup QB you need on your team.

  16. Chris in WA Says:

It’s well known that Tmax is a relative of GMC trying to troll the fan base to run McCoy to another team.

  17. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Would be a wise move to keep him. Great backup at this point in his career. Put Ryan Griffin on the practice squad and be done

  18. Nate Says:

Ryan griifin….a undrafted developmental player and 50yr old fitz who BARELY beat the two worse teams on the schedule

IF WE DONT DRAFT A REAL TALENTED LATE BACK UP QB TO PUSH JAMEIS PENDING SUSPENSION…..

IF IT HAPPENS THIS DUMB ASS TEAM DESERVES EVERYTHING IT GETS SMH

  19. Nate Says:

I get into it with tjmax a bit let me stop tmax hehe

BUT LIKE SOME OF US WE ARE TIRED OF REMINISCING AND SEEEING MOVES IN ADVANCE THAT WILL HURT THE TEAM

HE BARELY COULD MANAGE THE JETS AND DOLPHINS ….GEE WIZ MAN SMH

  20. WyomingBucsFan Says:

Fitz is only 35 years old. He doesn’t play RB. He played well for us and should return. At 35 my arm felt the same as it did at 25, granted i don’t throw passes for a living. Bring Fitz back or draft Baker Mayfield in the 2nd round. I would rather have a defensive player in the 2nd round so bring Fitz back.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

I got a better idea lets just continue to draft offensively. Do it for 7 rds and continue to lose. Its what we Bucs are great at!!

  22. BuccLuck Says:

I like the idea of Fitz staying. He adds veteran leadership that both Jameis and Griffin need. We all said it after Jameis came back, “hopefully he learned something from watching Fitz play.” I’m sure he learns from Fitz’s experience in the meeting room each week. Luckily Jameis has much more talent to execute at a higher level than Fitz ever did.

  23. Roy T. Buford Says:

As I mentioned before, Jameis is only one reason why Koetter is staying, and Jameis is also a good reason why they’d want Fitz to stay for another year. And no, it’s not to develop Jameis or mentor him. It is because no decent HC would ever have come here if not knowing what is up with Jameis and his Uber deal…and if Jameis is found to have lied or behaved as accused, the Bucs need a bridge QB because he’d probably not be retained after this season. It’s sad the turnover machine brought this on himself.

  24. BigHogHaynes Says:

He beat the Jets and the Dolphins! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

  25. NFLNut Says:

Bring Fitz back as long as he’s CHEAP … his veteran presence and personality is a good fit with Jameis, and he was solid enough in his starts this year as well …
