Razor focus for Mike Evans all season long

Yes, Bucs fans, the nation knows there’s an elite receiver on your football team.

His name is Mike Evans.

Evans, 23, was named to his first Pro Bowl tonight. That’s very special stuff after overcoming a wicked case of the dropsies and extreme mental breakdowns last year.

Evans has been a calm, cool manbeast this season, despite a rough last three games featuring no trips to the end zone and just 139 yards.

Considering Vincent Jackson was dreadful when he was healthy and the Bucs have had no No. 2 receiving threat to take heat off Evans, his 84 receptions and 1,159 yards are especially impressive with two games remaining.

Evans’ ratio of first downs to catches is extraordinary. Plus he’s made spectacular grabs and worked all parts of the field.

Joe hopes Evans buys wide receivers coach/offensive coordinator Todd Monken one hell of a fancy dinner with his Pro Bowl bonus. Monken did a tremendous job taking Evans’ game to another level.

Joe saw all this coming while declaring Evans “training camp winner.”

His production has dropped off the last 3 weeks. Hopefully he picks it up. Hopefully Jameis does a better job of getting him the ball.

    @ joe
what happened to the drop report?

  8. yrbndr Says:

Congrats Mike! Your transformation on how you are using hands to receive the ball this season has been amazing! Would love to hear who was in your ear to change your mechanics of using your hands away from your body! I can’t remember such a dramatic change from one season to the next… job well done!

  9. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

LOL! Yeah Monken is the reason! Last year Evans had 1200 yards through 15 games. This year he has 1150 through 14 games. Last year Evans averaged 16 yards per reception. This year he is averaging 13 yards per reception. Thank god Monken is here because ole KY hands stunk up the joint last year. Your constant berating of him last year was over done. He had one really bad game but actually was exactly where he is this year as far as production. Actually at 16 yards per reception I would say he may have actually been a bit more productive last year.

Congrats Mike, now let’s work on those yac yards. #KY

It was reported on another site that shepard and Evans both worked with a backup QB from another team extensively in Houston area in the off season. think he benefitted from this extra work and came to camp in shape and focused. So credit starts with Evans work effort and improved focus. And thats
    where Montgen took over.

  12. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Look up his stats from last year Bob. Or read my post above. So funny the spin on this and acting like he was no good last year.

there are some plays missing that Evans was efficient on that haven’t been used this year.He was very good on out routes and toe taps on the sideline
last year. This year Evans has caught a 9.5 foot pass ,and one off his shoe laces last week.Jameis has to improve on his ball placement to get the most out of Evans talent. We need to get in the endzone more. I don’t think Evans was blanketed so much, last week, Jameis seemed intent on trying to get the ball to Humphries and he was inaccurate on 3 of 5 of those.Hump got the TD but was Jameis gave the defender a better chance to catch it than hump.
This has also happened ME13 several times this year in the endzone.

  15. SB with Jameis Says:

Once again………..He had SIX drops in one game and he was ‘credited’ with 11 by Consensus in “a stat that is not official with the NFL”
overcoming a wicked case of the dropsies and extreme mental breakdowns last year.
    …………….
This is a Non factual statement designed to create hype. Dude had HALF his drops in ONE game after he and his Fiance almost split……………..Chris Carter voice…..”C’mon Maaaan!!”

  16. SB with Jameis Says:

There was supposed to be a break between my comment in reference to Joe’s. Good thing I build houses and don’t write for a living.

  17. Bob in valrico Says:

    Agree TDBTB
Comment on drop rate was meant to point out that joe dropped the drop report because it did not prove his point.

Don’t know if its Montgens fault, but I think jameis accuracy is still an issue.
The line needs to be fixed and better WR’s brought in to give Jameis more weapons next year.

  18. SB with Jameis Says:

Before I go to bed. LOL Bob! Good one.

  19. Bob in valrico Says:

    @SB thanks and good night

  20. Pickgrin Says:

Congrats Big Mike. Well deserved honor. Now lets end the year with a bang and get you over the 1400 yard mark (with 14TDs) on our way to the playoffs….
