Schein: Don’t Sleep On Bucs

May 11th, 2016
Signs point to a fun season.

Signs point to a fun season, explained on NFL.com.

Many takes in the comments section here refer to an international conspiracy afoot, no doubt controlled by none other than Vladimir Putin, that national (international?) talking heads only speak ill of the Bucs.

Joe assumes these same commenters struggle to get the buzzing out of their ears from the black helicopters hovering over their abodes.

Popular sports radio and television personality Adam Schein burst the bubble on the conspiracy theorists. Typing for NFL.com, Schein believes the Bucs are a sleeper playoff team this season and opponents would be wise not to overlook Tampa Bay.

Tampa is going to be right in the mix all season long. I see these young Bucs winning nine games (great minds think alike, mom!) and seriously competing for a playoff spot. I think they are the second-best team in the NFC South (behind the reigning NFC champion Panthers). And in five years, Bucs fans will look back on the 2016 season as the building-block campaign that catapulted them toward sustained success.

Yes, brilliant general manager Jason Licht nailed the 2016 NFL Draft. And yes, I’m talking about a draft where he traded up to take a kicker in Round 2.

It is a lengthy article and Schein details why he is driving the Bucs’ bandwagon. Bucs fans will enjoy the piece.

Schein is hardly the only national talking head who thinks the Bucs will challenge for a playoff spot this year.

Joe doesn’t understand why some fans think national types can only rag on the Bucs, as if it is some unwritten network rule. Then again, Joe doesn’t watch BSPN, so perhaps that is the source of the smell?

If the Bucs are in range at the end of the year, then its a great year!!!! If the Bucs stay competitive into the 4th quarter of games, then that is a huge improvement from last year!!! The Bucs being an exciting team to watch will be a welcome change then from the horrible, unwatchable, coach my scheme regime!!! I had to make espresso at halftime just to make it thru most games!!!!!

  2. Dave Says:

ESPN has so many talking heads you can find every opinion from every angle.
They did have a segment about new teams in the playoffs this coming year and the Bucs were one of them. I can’t remember who was in charge of that opinion piece, it was awhile ago, before the draft even

  3. Buc since '74 Says:

I will be pleased to not vomit by half time of game 1 this year.

  4. Mort Says:

I have to be honest, I like the draft twice as much if we take keyarris Garrett in round six instead of devante bond. Correct state, wrong player. Watching him go to Carolina just makes me sick to my stomach.

  5. Buc1987 Says:

    Sorry Mort Licht likes Vontae’s.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

Oh never mind. La-vontae was taken by Realist’s hero, former Bucs rockstar GM Mark Dominik.

  7. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Ppl are starting read the writing on the wall. This roster is infuzed with young talent and the arrow is certainly shooting up for bucs. We’re getting better and better every year thanks to the Jason Licht at the helm. We are in good hands with Licht. He will bring us back to the promise lands with #3 leading the way. This is gonna be a VERY exciting team to watch not just this year, but for years to come. The last time there was this much excitement and hope for a bucs team was when we had players named Sapp, Brooks & Lynch. It’s been almost 15 years sadly. It may of took us a long time, but we are finally relevant again. -GO BUC$ BABY!!!

And If u haven’t watched the “2016 buccaneers hype video” on YouTube u GOTTA check it out. If that video doesn’t get u pumped, u don’t have a lifeline.

  8. DallasBuc Says:

It is much easier to see the Bucs in a positive light without that incompetent rube running a foul-language free bible study of a professional football team.
Maybe playing defense, scoring points and winning football games will be a priority somewhere near the top of the list under competent leadership.

  9. tmaxcon Says:

The bucs under koetter and good coach Smith will keep the bucs respectable and surprise a few people. I still think next season is when we will see teams fear the bucs. WR is still a huge concern. If career bums and CFL players like Murphy and Dye make team bucs are in trouble. I can see 9 wins. Koetter not being afraid to score points like the incompetent loser was should account for 2 wins. Not going turtle or the signature lovie move of coaching scaredwith a 3 point lead should also pickup a couple of wins.

  10. SB with Jameis Says:

    Repost from last night.
WOW……we are 29th in the new BSPN power rankings. That is one spot lower than we were “Post Free Agency” and FIVE freaking spots lower than we Finished the 2015 season on a Four game Losing Skid!!!!
The Four letter network doesn’t actually like a Thing we did despite all the smoke they blow up our a$$es.

  11. mike n Says:

You know we have a playoff roster if we trade up for a kicker in the 2nd. There is no way a GM would do that if we had holes to fill. Go bucs!

  12. Buc1987 Says:

The word of the day is : Incompetent

    1. not having or showing the necessary skills to do something successfully.

  13. Patrick in VA Says:

Why would national media types pay attention to the Bucs? They have to cover 32 teams on a week to week basis. Why would we want them to give us coverage when we’ve stunk out loud for almost 2 decades? Do you folks really want to hear what they would have to say about us if they were to give the team some air time? I promise it wouldn’t be flattering.

  14. Dick Butkiss Says:

BSPN only has Barry Melrose talking playoff hockey. Enough said…

  15. Buccfan37 Says:

My two words for Bucs fans today… eternal optimism.

  16. LargoBuc Says:

Lots of young talent on this roster. You’d be foolish not to see this teams potential. Atlanta may have Julio and Nawlins has Brees of course but I’ll take Jameis, Kwon and co. any day. Seriously, Carolina’s biggest obstacle will be Tampa. I don’t think we overthrow them just yet, but two years ago, we were the joke of the NFC South, no the entire LEAGUE! Licht, Koetter and Smith got my trust. IDK why, just something about Koetter tells me he’s the one. Raheem, Schiano and Lovie were not the guys to fet it done for one reason or another. But Koetter seems to really be vibeing with this team.

  17. Rrsrq Says:

I recall Jamie Dukes of the NFL Network never had a good thing to say about the Bucs, I figured it was his hatred of the team because of his Falcons love, but in a recent turn of events (Jameis Winston – FSU), he now speaks positively of the Bucs future

  18. salish_seamonster Says:

They hate you when you’ve been down, they love you when you’re up. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see this. Win some games and they’ll all jump on the bandwagon. The only team that is immune from this treatment, year in and year out, is the Cowturds, who always get the media reach-around. It’s all noise. Just ignore it.

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

I won’t sleep on our Bucs. But I’m not singing Jingle Bells on’em either!
Win some games 1st. Get to the playoffs. Until then? I’ll continue to throw meat to the lions behind the steel bars.

That was actually a pretty good article now that I bothered to read it. Nice to see a bit of national Love “Scheined” on the Buccaneers.

  22. PRBucFan Says:

We aren’t crazy, JW has changed peoples tune, before that we hardly ever got any love.

  23. BigMacAttack Says:

    I agree with him

  24. Idontwannahearitanymore Says:

“Tampa is going to be right in the mix all season long. ”

I don’t see it quite that way, although the end result may be similar. With our schedule, we are likely to lose quite a few games in the first half of the season, putting us off everybody’s radar. In the second half, however, we are likely to win a goo number of the games, coming on strong at the end of the season.

  25. D-Rome Says:

Tampa is going to be right in the mix all season long. I see these young Bucs winning nine games (great minds think alike, mom!)

OK, so now we know what Joe’s expectation and prediction is. My expectation is that they win nine games as well. I don’t think Bucs fans should expect any less. 7-9 or 8-8 doesn’t cut it.

  26. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Read the article. I love this:

“I see a team that’s ready to ascend, an emerging threat that’s hiding in plain sight. Open your eyes. It’s time to stop sleeping on the Bucs.”

  27. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @D-Rome

    That wasn’t Joe’s prediction.

  28. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

My expectations are this…I want to see really good football with a chance to make the playoffs at the end of the season (not just in the mix for a couple games).

I also want us to beat the Panthers in at least one game.

My HOPES for this season are this…that we cram every doubters words down their throats and win the Super Bowl. If not that, then make it to the NFC championship game.

  29. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Oh, and if we play the Titans (I don’t know if we do), I want to see Jameis get the Mariota money off his back.
