Rallying The Troops

Not satisfied.

It is common knowledge that America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, will actually show up at teammates’ doors to watch tape or throw the pigskin around in order to improve during the offseason.

He is not alone. So too will middle linebacker Kwon Alexander.

Last week when Kwon spoke with Joe and the rest of the Tampa Bay pen and mic club, Alexander let it be known he is so motivated to rid the losing stench around One Buc Palace, he has been putting in extra hours and has lured teammates to join him.

“That’s just how I work, period,” Kwon said. “I’m really just kicking it in an extra gear this year. I’ve just been doing extra workouts. I’ve been trying to get my teammates involved, too. Most of them have been coming in working out with me, trying to get better.

“I’m trying to make this defense the No. 1 defense in the league, so I’ve got big expectations and how I work, everybody is going to work like me. I like to bring excitement, have fun, and that’s how it’s going to be around here.”

That’s one motivated young man. We all know by now Kwon has been itching to meet with Bucs icon Derrick Brooks, and Brooks wants the meeting, too. That hasn’t stopped Kwon from picking others’ brains.

So far, Kwon said he has pestered new Bucs outside linebacker Daryl Smith constantly, asking questions all day long Smith, Kwon said, has answered every one.

Bucs suits look at Kwon sort of as the Jameis of the defense, the way he has a burning desire to improve and, more importantly, win games. Those are the types of players Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht refers to when he speaks of “Bucs mentality.”

  1. Defense Rules Says:

The Bucs are building something special here. With young play-makers like Jameis on the offensive side of the ball and Kwon on the defensive side, and the pieces surrounding them falling into place, the future is looking a lot brighter.

  2. Larry Says:

This attitude around One Buc is like a refreshing breath of mountain air! It’s been too long coming.

  3. Chromolly Says:

I like the fact the Glaziers are not taking that “Patience or wait and see ” mentality…Your ass under performs you are GONE!

Malcoms gone, living the gravy train is over it’s time to perform or gtfo!

  4. No_Bucs_Given Says:

Gerald shoulda been talking like this instead of all that fun crap we had to endure.

Everyday I visit JBF I read dumb s@$! like “this team has so many holes”. I wonder to myself do these people not realize the size of some of these young Lion’s Hearts. These boys have smelled the same stinch of losing we fans have for a long time and they’re clearly not having it going forward. I think to myself well what is a perfect roster??? I mean the Packers don’t have one, don’t need one when you a competitor like Rodgers under center. Kinda cleans up all area of the team that are lacking if you know what I mean. Thank the football Gods for this new breed that now call the bay they’re home.

  6. Tampa Tony Says:

Just shows how losing was acceptable to this team and its captains prior to Jameis and Kwon showing up.

No wonder the Bucs have sucked for so long

  7. DemBoysFromDaBay727 Says:

The plaque is finally be lifted from one buc palace! We are finally getting guys that are not just here to collect paychecks and love the game of football. It’s crazy that it took this long to finally start getting these type of guys on the roster. But I guess when u have a loosing mentality and your use to it by accepting it, it rubs off on the other players that come in. Just like winning does. It can have the same effect. We just have to get it going by winning games and they will start believing in there selfs and build confidence.

And we finally have the perfect players on defense and offense to set that tone. Kwon and Jameis refuse to accept defeat anymore and will do everything they can by working their @$$es off to change that, and the other players will follow suit. the ones that dont…don’t let the door hit u in the @$$ homie!!!

IT’S A NEW DAY IN TAMPA BAY FOLKS!!!

  8. Bob in Valrico Says:

    @Nosbos
While we are at we should those football gods for our “guiding Licht” and

Koetter and staff who will bring a new approach and make football fun again.

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

@Tony- I cannot allow myself to believe that. I find that to be reprehensible, and that’s as a fan. No way!
Maybe you could say we hear it more because of Jameis’ and Kwon’s big personalities. I will not let myself believe that nobody else wanted to win, regardless of what was said or not said.
It is inspiring to hear though! Go get ’em Kwon!

  10. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

A yo Bob I second that notion my bro.

  11. Bob in Valrico Says:

Feeling magnanimous today, even have to thank Lovie for hiring Licht and
Koetter. as we much we need players with fire in their belly, whether it was
coaching or front office the team has been rudderless for quite a few years.

  12. William Walls Says:

“…everybody is going to work like me”
“and that’s how it’s going to be around here.”

    That’s how leaders speak.

  13. BigHogHaynes Says:

KWON is part of the LOVIE FOUNDATION!!

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    BigHogHaynes

Kwon is part of the Licht Grand-slam…. Kwon excelled despite the incompetent lovie smith not because of him.

Went a tour this weekend of One Buc. Cool experience. Anyhow, it was the afternoon but there was one player working out. But I thought it was cool that Austin Seferian-Jenkins was there with his trainer. And he was in good spirits. Let’s see if it means anything. But I thought it was cool.

  16. BigHogHaynes Says:

tmaxcon: never been lost, just not a sheep, I call it like I see it! SORRY!

  17. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

“Magnanimous” yo I’m about to Google that one Bob.

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

Coach my scheme’s accomplishments with the Bucs, selected NFL GM Licht, Very High draft picks……..that is all!

Not many know that it was NFL GM Licht that selected Head Coach Koetter for OC when the guy coach my scheme wanted did not even want to interview!!!!!

  19. Pickgrin Says:

Looking forward to seeing what Kwon can do in his 2nd year. Great players usually make a nice jump forward in their 2nd year and Kwon looked really solid playing as a rookie. How good can he be? We shall see…

  20. Bucsfanman Says:

Well put Pickgrin. I’m excited to see what this kid can do. Hopefully, transitioning to a new D won’t slow him down.

  21. BigHogHaynes Says:

The Buc Realist: never heard of that before, you sir are one hella”va Buc insider, you do a good job of spinning, but I ain’t dizzy!

  22. Couch Fan Says:

Getting dizzy would require you to loosen your lip lock on Lovie’s backside… Which I dont see happening.

  23. Tampa Tony Says:

Looking forward to seeing Kwon in a attacking style d

  24. BigHogHaynes Says:

@Couch Fan: Coming to the rescue! I’m not surprised. Just stop bashing, LOVIE gone, he’s not the first nor the last coach to have a losing record at Tamoa Bay!but you keep following the leader!&$
