Decision Time

October 20th, 2015
Just say no.

Just say no.

Beleaguered center Evan Smith was back on the practice field this afternoon.

Oh, boy.

Joe might have to start the Joe Hawley Mob, in honor of the center who has played so well, making three starts while Smith has nursed an ankle injury.

One could have made a solid case that backup center Jeremiah Warren should have started opening day ahead of Smith, after Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, seemed to thrive only when Warren was snapping him the ball.

Now, Joe thinks the looming decision is clear. Keep Hawley starting. Don’t mess with the chemistry. The good chemistry.

  1. Hawaiian Buc Says:

There really isn’t much of a decision to be made, as long as the objective is to win games. Smith, grab that clipboard over there!

  2. Buc1987 Says:

I think every Bucs fan on planet earth wants no part of this guy on the field.

What’s with that pic Joe? Whenever I see it, it looks like he’s about to sneeze.

  3. Tiny Tim Says:

Jameis only thrives when he hands the ball of to Martin. If he throws less than 20 passes and Hawley is playing Bucs should win.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

“Just enjoy your time and appreciate it and be grateful, because you never know when it’s going to end. And not a lot of people — maybe top-five percent — get to retire on their own terms. And everybody else either gets kicked out or is not invited back. So just keep enjoying it, and play your hardest every time you get out there.” –Joe Hawley

  5. martyb Says:

Trade him for any reasonable draft pick you can get

  6. martyb Says:

By him, i mean Evan Smith.

  7. WalkdaPlank Says:

Good ‘ol Lovie Smith benched Verner and Banks for “his guys” who are a bunch of hacks. What makes you think he won’t do the same with Hawley?

  8. Clodhopper Says:

Jennings and Smith should go halves on a package of Olive loaf and a loaf of bread and eat lunch together while loafing on the sidelines.

  9. 911bucs Says:

I think the picture looks like he’s getting something done below.

  10. SOFIERCE Says:

    @911

    Yeah… A La Lovie!

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Think this decision is with Warhop & Koetter…..not Lovie.

Sorry to disappoint everyone, but I think Smith gets the start. Not saying I agree but that’s the way I see it.

  12. Nick3 Says:

Please tell me he wont get his job back. When he left our offense was terrible.

  13. PRBucFan Says:

The very idea of Evans getting back in the lineup is nauseating.

Not as nauseating as that picture though.

  14. Howard Cosell Says:

    Good depth starting to appear.
The Glazers probably need to out the word to
trade or release some of these good depth players
so the Bucs can save money on player payroll.
We can replace them with slugs off the street at half
    the price.

  15. Howard Cosell Says:

    Hawley > E(D)S

    Simple as that.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Won’t get many trade offers for Smith if he sits on the bench after an injury….

    May not get any anyway….

  17. mike Says:

I always love the people who say “trade this guy for a draft pick” If he can’t play good for us then no one else will want him. No one claims the guys we cut, we only claim trash from others. Our games are on tv too, so other gm’s can see the tape an don’t want EDS. The guy isn’t fetching a draft pick.

  18. drdneast Says:

Here we go again, Joe trying to find a scapegoat for past ills of this unir because the said player jad s couple of bad shotgun snaps last year. Last night the Eagles All pro center had a couple to.
What this stems back to is Smith treating Joes girlfreind like a rookie instead of the chpsrn one.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

911bucs…lol a BJ? What’s that? I’m a married man, probably why it never crossed my mind. It also looks like he might be taking a much needed whiz.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

drdneast…no you’re wrong. I think it’s pretty much agreed on by all most Buc fans that he sucks….then again there is always you…

  21. BigMacAttack Says:

Can’t we just give him a Browns jersey?

  22. Idontwannahearitanymore Says:

Keep E. Smith, T. Jennings, and M. Jenkins on the bench. They provide some measure of depth.

Replace them when you find someone better. As Raheem used to say, ” I will tolerate you until I can replace you.”

  23. Tiny Tim Says:

    @ the fake Tiny Tim

You are a freaking pu$$y. Stop using my name you freaking child!!

  24. buc4life1979 Says:

The ONLY chemistry this team has is on special teams and the o-line…so it only makes sense when taking into account Lovie Smith’s history, that he screws that chemistry and plays E. smith. Simple as that.

  25. passthebuc Says:

There is no logic to what lovie does or will do. you guy’s are posting as if logic will finally rear its ugly head.

  26. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I don’t think ANY Buccaneers fan would choose EDS over Warren, let alone Hawley!

  27. Fsuking Says:

Oh man, decision time for Lovie Smith is never a good thing.

  28. Bucdon Says:

Please don’t put this guy back in. I don’t want to see these soft ball style shot gun snaps again. Simple as that…………

  29. James Walker Says:

EDS is great backup, but overpaid, second string.

  30. Trubucfan22 Says:

I don’t mind ES starting. If he truly is the better player. I know the o line has been performing well without him, but that doesn’t mean Hawley is the reason for that. Not to say Hawley has played poorly, but im also not saying he is great. A true competition, winner takes all, is the proper way to handle this. Maybe, just maybe, Smith will have a fire lit under his butt with the way the o line has performed without him. I believe smith could be the better player, but im not sold on that either.

  31. dave Says:

make him 3rd string center and earn his spot back. this year warren and hawley have looked so much better individually and oline as a whole. dont like es’s attitude or play. dont fix what aint broke right joe

  32. bucsbedabest Says:

Evan Smith will start because he is the better player and gives this team a better chance to win. I do not get all the hostility towards E Smith? If Joe Hawley was that much better than Smith the coaches would keep starting him. Simple as that. Don’t care about the starter can not lose his position if they are injured stuff. Hawley can not hang with large DT. Watch tape. Smith plays “smash mouth” football.

  33. Ray Rice Says:

Leave that weak MF on the bench!!!

  34. Dave Says:

    BucsBeDaBest

You’re right. Smith is definitely better for run blocking.
I also disagree with JOE and the other people here who think they aren’t playing who they think is best at any position.
Smith beat out the other two then had a couple bad snaps. If one of the other guys best him out, great, but I haven’t seen it.

Kind of like the screaming for Verner starting at CB again. Sorry, but he lost his job because he was AWFUL in game 1. I like him at nickel. With Banks and Jenkins starting. Granted, Jenkins and Jennings have not been good, Verner was every bit as bad.
Jennings is definitely the worst of the bunch.

It is painfully obvious they need –
    DB
    DE
    WR
    OL

    For next draft

  35. Buc1987 Says:

Yes Dave Jalen Ramsey FSU shutdown corner….

  36. JollyBucsFan Says:

If Smith starts its just another in a long line of egregious personnel decisions by Lovie. Banks Verner are younger, have more upside, are are just better!
Same with Hawley. Smith is a mediocre Center at BEST. Hawley played great, and could be a staple on this team for years.

As for Mankins/Pamphile I am in favor of starting the veteran, he is a true veteran and he seems to be having a good effect on our Oline. Pamphile will take over will take over next year.

  37. JollyBucsFan Says:

Dave, your draft needs are on point. I say throw in Safety, and LB and were covered. granted I dont know what we can get in the late rounds to fill those holes
