Jameis Is In Tampa Again

April 27th, 2015

jameis 0212b

For the second time in three weeks, prospective Bucs No. 1 pick Jameis Winston was in Tampa, last night attending a function at a casino — oh, no! Wait till the haters outside Tampa Bay learn that – for the Derrick Brooks Charities foundation.

The event had several heavy-hitters in attendance, including Bucs coach Lovie Smith, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

Months ago, former NFL general manager Bill Polian, who now makes a living as a talking head, noted that whatever pick the Bucs would make Thursday will come to town to sort of get familiar with the area and get fans familiar with him.

After Winston spent time at Mike Alstott Family Foundation functions earlier this month, former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik said it was a clear sign the Bucs were leaning to selecting Winston in the NFL draft. Now Winston is mingling with Brooks’ foundation.

If Joe missed Marcus Mariota playing cornhole on Clearwater Beach with former and current Bucs, or golfing with former and current Bucs as Winston is expected to do today, then please help Joe out and identify the error.

Joe isn’t a big believer in coincidences.

I’m no hater but more of a speculator.. Could Winston be trying kiss some ass to the tampa bay organization and fans because he doesn’t want to lose to mariota a 2nd time? Being the number 1 pick to Winston seems to me like an ego thing. Its not like he has to travel across the country either. Speculation

  2. Tiny Tim Says:

    @delson

What are you talking about? Kiss a$$? News flash… He was invited to Tampa by Alstott and Brooks for their charity events. This is not a “Buccaneer” event. How is that kissing a$$? Lose to Mariota? As Jameis said at the combine…..I am not worried about Mariota. I am thinking about Brady and Manning.

  3. Vic Says:

Welcome, Jameis! I will sleep well tonight.

  4. SAMCRO Says:

Ok, we get it Joe, you don’t have to slobber all over yourself!!! 🙂

  5. Joe Says:

    Delson:

Alstott called the Bucs and asked permission to bring him in and the Bucs not just agreed, but gave Alstott Winston’s contact info.

    Hardly Winston groveling for attention.

  6. Kevin Says:

Seriously delson……. you think he just shows up on his own to kiss ass? Lol no Bucs orchestrate all of this for. Brooks asked him to go to his charity. Alstott asked him to come to his. He just doesn’t show up. Seems like you are pulling bs out of your tin foil hat.

  7. WS99 Says:

According to Bspn uk Winstons Qbase score indicates a 60%+ chance to become a bust vs 22% for Mariota. The statistical metric does not account for off field issues or gimmicky offenses.

  8. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    @WS99

Joe puts about as much stock in number crunchers and spreadsheeters as Rex Ryan puts in the idea of socks for women. In other words: none.

  9. P'cola Buc Says:

    @WS99

….and off field issues as well as gimmicky offenses are the issues greatly in question….so….next statistic metric please.

  11. Tiny Tim Says:

    @WS99

No statistical metric for on field leadership and clutch gene. No statistical metric for how a player studies/prepares off the field. It always comes down to the player period. Always.

  15. tval Says:

Lucky man, onebuc. After the disappointment that was the buccaneers last super bowl run, ovser my eagles, the only thing i took solace in was the fact that derrick was their leader. (Also one of my favorites) i never in a million years thought any player from any school could make me a fan of any other team. Eagle fans are the most crazy loyal fans of all, obviously..lol! And im not against letting desean (didnt like the way we handled it) lesean or maclin go. Thats not the main factor. The main factor is jameis, another one is chip, who i like, talking trash like a jr high coach when addressing this years qbs. 🙂 and jameis gets to go to his old favorite teams field to show the ‘mad scientist’ who really is this years best qb.

  16. tval Says:

It is sad how hard espn has tried to make it a debate. Jameis will render that particular metric entirely obsolete by years end..book it!

I’ll go even further to say that if the Bucs can get the Oline squared away, with the Offensive weapons Tampa already has in place all of the rookie passing records are in serious jeopardy…

  19. Simpleasthat Says:

Get your head out of your ass!!

  20. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

WS99 some advice for you. One thing my old football coach used to say was “statistics are for losers.” In the end nobody knows who will pan out from this year’s draft. One thing I do know you need in football to elevate your game is heart and passion. I do believe Winston has those fine qualities, and will be a fine Buccaneer. Go Bucs!

  21. Mariota Joe Says:

Yawn. This means nothing as it relates to whether the Bucs will make the mistake of choosing him or not. This piece is just another JBF Infamous masturb…errrr….cheerleading session.

  22. JameisBucsQB Says:

Joe, thank you for the morning laugh. I knew the haters would come on strong. These few months has been some enjoyable read. Thank you haters for the laughs.

  23. Jacko101 Says:

I didn’t know Winston was pregnant

  24. Jacko101 Says:

I hope we do draft Winston so
You nuts can see up close and personal how average he is. He struggled against average to top defenses all 2014-2015. Joe is a great writer, but a terrible talent evaluator. You shall all see.

  25. DallasBuc Says:

On top of everything else he is a degenerate gambler too? And to see him do that while besmirching the reputation of Brooks is low. I’ll bet he was drinking sugary soda all night and talking to white women too.

  26. MTM Says:

Well it can’t be more obvious that Lovie and Licht plan to pick Winston. It also obvious that the Glazers don’t want it announced until draft just in case something changes off the field. The organization seems to be playing some sort of behind the scene cover your butt maneuvers. Its like they are afraid to fully commit as case something happens and that’s not the mindset an organization should have about their pick.

I prefer Mariota myself, but even I can see how biased this statement is.

You are reading into things. The clear reason they have not committed yet is because the Bucs want to see what trade offers come in. Although they plan on Winston (right or wrong), I believe if the right offer came in, they would take it.

It would have to be an incredible offer though. (I hope. Jason Lost might well consider a 6th rounder an incredible offer).

  49. Eric Says:

Looks like some great bucs fans are hoping our first round draft pick fails.

Awesome job of supporting the team.

  50. J Says:

Could the Bucs be raising stock value for a trade? I’m just curious

  51. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Eric…there are NO Buc fans “hoping” Jameis fails….there are plenty of Buc fans just as passionate about the team as you are….they are WORRIED Jameis fails with continued off field screw ups !….and of course there are REAL on field issues too

  52. Bucman0620 Says:

WS99 Just so you know the only reason is so much more likely to be a bust rather than Mariota is because no one expects Mariota to be worth a damn in the first place. You can’t be a bust if nothing is expected of you.

  53. Jacob Paul Says:

To all of you people saying that Jameis is trying not to lose to Mariota for a 2nd time… Jameis played with a team that wasn’t half as talented as the 2013 FSU football team. Lost so many players to the NFL. Where was Mariota during that year? He didn’t even get a chance to go to the Rose bowl that year. Took Mariota till his junior season to finally get that talented Oregon team to a championship. Anyways, the only system Mariota can excel in, is that spread offense with chip kelly on the Eagles. If he goes anywhere else, he’ll be a bust. Jameis is going to Tampa because he is a true NFL QB. Not some college QB that throws screen passes an entire game and runs the option. Only Russell Wilson can run the option in the NFL without getting completely exposed.

  54. J Says:

Jacob Paul… vaguely accurate passes to a monster receiver in Kelvin Benjamin shows that muck like Evans made Manziel, KB made JW

  55. Mariota Joe Says:

    Clodhopper, that was totally classless.

    G Rec Yds Avg TD
    2012 (with EJ) 14 30 495 16.5 4
    2013 (with JW) 14 54 1011 18.7 15

    You were saying?…………

  57. Bucman0620 Says:

J considering Mike Evans is better than KB and we also have VJax and ASJ I think Winston will do just fine finding someone to throw the ball too,…. so (as you would say) someone can make him.

  58. Eric Says:

seemed like that was hoping for failure to me, not just worrying.

  59. Mariota Joe Says:

“Hoping for failure” isn’t the point…the point is that with Infamous, many of us are “expecting a failure”. And just LOOK at all the posts on this site over the last weeks/months! And ask yourself this…..In all of Buccaneer history, which one, sole individual player that’s not even a BUC YET that has caused the greatest divide…the greatest split….the biggest arguments among Bucs’ fans??? And the lawsuits will be flying (yes, plural). If you’re a Buc fan, do you REALLY want that for your team? A divided fan base, and nothing but controversy shadowing every day of your “Infamous Face of the Franchise” ???

  60. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Excuse me J even if your opinion that Kelvin Benjamin made WINSton what then would you expect Mike Evans presence as his team mate have on the production of his career. I got one, monstrous my friend. KB is good. Mike Evans is an absolute beast.

I expected failure from Freeman. But, the second he was drafted, I was rooting and positive for him…And I stayed that way for at least 3 seasons.

  62. Eric Says:

    What multiple suits?

The girl who said she is not a victim is going to file a suit? About what?

The haters are actually trying to get people to believe they do not want Winston to fail? After all the smearing and innuendo?

    Yeah right.

  66. Bucko 40 Says:

  67. ck Says:

Will it be possible to lock all of the “JW quitter” Bucs fans out of the stadium, like they did to those Heat fans a couple of seasons ago? The kid’s going to be great, the team’s going to be great, and we don’t want you back when you leave!! In fact, you should go now. Please!!! GIIIT!!!!

  68. Joey Says:

I do not want us to draft Winston and I think there may be better options out there….that being said, I will support him and hope he succeeds with the Bucs because as a Bucs fan and season ticket holder since 1979…the Bucs will fail if and when he fails.

  69. JameisBucsQB Says:

All I have been doing is reading some of you guys comments and they are plain stupid! One let’s talk about about Jameis Winston’s so called off the field issues! Let’s be really honest here, Winston has only done two things that’s crazy off the field those crab legs that Jameis supposedly stole were given to him. But when Winston got caught walking out the store With the crab legs he didn’t tell on the guy because he didn’t want him to lose his job! The only things that is mind boggling to me is were he stood on the table and yelled obscenity words other than that all the kid does is win! It’s about time that the franchise care about winning and not the bs of what other people thinks! I’m tired of referring to my Bucs as the ”(bucket of tears)” it’s time to win and if they want to do that draft famous Jameis Winston!

  74. SB Says:

All the haters can pack it in Thursday at 8:15pm. For all you who turn in your tickets there will be many more folks gobbling them up. Jameis is the pick. anybody got any ins to see if Reebok is already printing up jerseys because you know they will be on sale Friday morning.

  75. SB Says:

right on Gorilla. Have been saying exactly the same thing regarding the Publix thing since day one. Couldn’t have said it better.

  76. SB Says:

Ok got to get in on the struggling part last year for Winston. everyone wants to talk about his int’s last year. He did not have Benjamin or Shaw last year. he was breaking in mostly new receivers or ones who had not played often except for Greene and O’Leary.

that’s why most of his picks were when he tried to force it to Greene. He was the one he trusted the most and the younger guys didn’t really step up like they were expected to. He has confidence in him and figured he could catch anything thrown his way. His decisions were not great yes but I think that is what happens.

When he gets here he will have two of the best wide outs in the game and will instantly make us a better team. He will have a learning curve yes but he is a competitor and a student of the game. And for as much as he may have “struggled” last year he turned it on when needed and got the job done.

do you want a guy who is that talented and a great leader and motivator and who gets in your face or a guy who hasn’t called a play since high school and whispers in the huddle.

Gruden said of Mariotta: “he put me to sleep when in meritings for his show” and he “couldn’t get James to stop talking”

  77. Stanglassman Says:

It’s- not too bright not Not to bright. The only time it’s really important to get it correct is when you’re calling other people stupid.

Gorilla- That’s because he never stood on a table and yelled it. That version that was embellished by yahoo sports and repeated by others. If you want to read what actually happened go to ‘Jameis Winston chapter 6’.
